2023 Drone Videos of the Week: Episode 30

Enjoy these magnificent drone views of France, compliments of former Drone Video of the Week Winner Bastien Nvs.  Just before the :40 mark, there's a great shot of a train crossing a viaduct somewhere in the French Alps, followed by the Saône River and the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière in the eastern city of Lyon.  Other featured locations include the town of Bonifacio at the southern tip of the island of Corsica (1:05), the Notre-Dame de la Garde (1:22) and the island fortress of Château d'If (1:30) in Marseilles, and more. 

Multiple Drone Video of the Month Winner DigitalTravelCouple brings us this stunning travel video from New Zealand.  At the :07 mark, there's a shot of Mt. Taranaki, a dormant volcano on the North Island.  At :35, there's a beautiful shot approaching Marokopa Falls in the North Island's Waikato region.  At the 2:20 mark, you'll see the islands of Lake Wakatipu on the South Island, and at 2:43 you'll see the "Three Sisters" rocks of the North Island's Taranaki region.  Other spots include Tongariro National Park and the Southern Alps.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor TimefocusFilms brings us this dramatic drone footage of a volcanic eruption in Iceland which captured headlines around the world.  On July 10, 2023, following thousands of tiny earthquakes over the preceding week, a giant fissure opened up near the Litli-Hrútur mountain opened up, spewing lava over an extended area.  It was the latest eruption in the Fagradalsfjall volcano complex near Reykjavik, site of the first volcanic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula in over 800 years.  

Take an aerial tour of Namibia in this outstanding drone travel video, brought to us by AirVuz contributor and pilot P-pilot.  The video was filmed over the course of a two week tour down the length of the giant southwest African country.  At the 1:05 mark (and again at 2:25), you'll see how the vast Namib Desert abuts the Atlantic Ocean coastline.  At 1:42, there's a magnificent shot of a grassland area giving way to some distant mountains, and at 2:38 you'll see the shipwreck Zelia near Henties Bay.  

Explore the glaciers of Iceland in this excellent travel video by AirVuz contributor Hashtaggu, which was created with a mix of drone and ground camera footage.  The video was filmed over a number of parts of the Vatnajökull glacier in southeastern Iceland, which is the island's largest icecap and which covers about a tenth of its surface area.  Covering 3.1k square mi. (a bit under 8k square km), it's the second-largest glacier in Europe, and its average thickness is almost a quarter mile (around .4 km).
