The Best Drone Videos of Scandinavia

AirVūz contributor DroneProduction.ru spent two weeks in the North Atlantic island nation of Iceland, capturing an astonishing 2 terabytes worth of video footage.  She then used this raw material - captured with a DJI Inspire 2, a Mavic Pro 2, and a Sony a9 ground camera - to create this stunning video of some of the world's most beautiful scenery.   The video, which won the Drone Video of the Week contest and earned a nomination at the 6th annual New York City Drone Film Festival, features truly epic shots from across the island.

Top contributor Drone My Life won the 2022 AirVuz Drone Video of the Year award for this fantastic video from the Faroe Islands, a Danish chain of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean.  Beautifully edited, the video combines footage from a DJI Mavic 3 Cine drone as well as first person view (FPV) drone footage.  Some of the featured locations include the úlafossur waterfall, which drops straight into the sea; and the needle-like Trøllkonufingur rock pillar.  Around the 1:24 mark, you'll fly (via FPV) through an impossibly-narrow canyon.

Prepare to be swept away by this stunning drone video from Greenland, compliments of top contributor Brendon Dixon.  He journeyed from Iceland to eastern Greenland aboard the old fashioned sailing ship Arktika, and brought along a very modern piece of equipment to record the journey: a DJI Phantom 4 drone.  The result is absolutely spectacular.  Greenland is truly one of the last frontiers, and the bird's eye footage of the beautiful wooden ship navigating its iceberg fields will astound you.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor and former NYCDFF winner marcusmollerdp brings us this stunning video of the  landscapes of Sweden.  The video was shot with a variety of drones and cameras, including a DJI Inspire 2, a Mavic Pro 2, and a Red camera.  Filmed over different seasons, the video brings out the stunning natural beauty of this giant Scandinavian country.  The piece features outstanding footage of Sweden's lakes, forests, low-slung mountains, and northern lights.  At the 1:30, you'll even see a herd of Swedish reindeer!  

Top Drone pilot and contributor Brendon Dixon takes us on an Icelandic adventure like no other, flying over some of the country's most recognizable landmarks.  Treat yourself to bird's eye views of waterfalls, volcanoes, icebergs, geysers, fjords, fishing villages, and dazzling coastlines.  This video was chosen as a finalist for the AirVuz Drone Video of the Week Contest in April of 2018.  It was also voted as the winner in the Countries and Regions category for the second Annual Drone Video Awards.  

Prepare to be blown away by these wintertime drone views of Iceland, compliments of top AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Siggizoom.  Despite the vanishingly short winter days, the North Atlantic island nation has a surprisingly mild winter climate given its northern latitude.  This is particularly true in its coastal areas, which is where most of the footage in the video was shot.   The DVOW winning video features jaw-dropping aerial views of this winter wonderland, which is virtually devoid of tourists during the winter months.  

Enontekiö is a municipality in the Lapland region of northern Finland.  Enontekiö occupies a sort of "land peninsula" which is sandwiched between Sweden to the south and west and Norway to the north.  The region is one of the most sparsely populated in Europe: covering almost 8k square km (around 3k square mi.), it's home to fewer than 2,000 inhabitants.   Contributor timoksanen was nominated for the Drone Video of the Week for this beautiful Fall piece from this magical spot well above the Arctic Circle.  

If you're a fan of "The Polar Express," the Caldecott Medal winning book turned movie starring Tom Hanks, then you're going to love this piece by top contributor haussmannvisuals. In the middle of winter the sun never fully rises around the Arctic Circle, but that doesn't mean only darkness. The aerial shots of the peaking sun's hues, twilight's glow and evening's sparkle over the famous Lofoten Islands of Northern Norway are simply stunning. This video was nominated for Drone Video of the Week.

Iceland is one of the world's most drone-able countries, a fact which has not escaped the world's drone pilots.  Top contributor and pilot Siggizoom used a combination of DJI drones to create this stunning visual tour of southeastern Iceland, home to some of the country's most well-known sights.  This piece was nominated for the Drone Video of the Week Award in April, 2018.  For a cinematic aerial view of glaciers, icebergs, volcanic mountains, and endless waterfalls, it's hard to beat this stunning drone film by a top native Iceland pilot.   

Award-winning drone pilot and director Mike Bishop creates aerial films that will blow your mind. "Awaken" Iceland is one of those films.  Shot with a DJI Phantom 4 drone, it has it all, from Landmannalaugar, deep within the highlands, to Thorsmork, the hidden Garden of Thor.  Here you can view Iceland's otherworldly landscape from the aurora borealis, to the cliffs and waterfalls.  It's all captured in this epic drone production by MikeBishop, which was the winner in the Countries category for the first annual DVA's.

Stockholm, Sweden dates its rise to prominence dates to the Hanseatic League, an alliance of Baltic cities which dominated Northern Europe from the 12th-14th centuries.  Stockholm went on to become the capital of the Swedish Empire which controlled some of the most powerful military forces in Europe in the 17th century.  Since then, the city has been the capital of Sweden and in effect the capital of Scandinavia.  Here, Frame Hunters Media delivers a beautiful aerial view of the City of Vikings.  

The stunning and dramatic landscapes of the Lofoten islands of northern Norway provide the perfect backdrop for this inspirational and powerful message. Creator Eric_Avila_Gallardo used a DJI Mavic Air drone to create this epic aerial video of this most drone-able region which consists of a group of islands that lie off the country's northern coast, above the Arctic Circle.  A nominee for our Drone Video of the Week contest, this masterpiece inspires us all and provides a gentle reminder to focus on our greater purpose.

Award-winning content creator Florian Ledeaux created this stunning drone video of Greenland, the world's largest island, which is part of the territory of Denmark in the North Atlantic Ocean.  Sailing around Greenland and towards northern Canada, he used his drone to create a breathtaking aerial view of massive icebergs, walruses, Beluga whales, and even unicorn-like Narwhal.   An avid environmentalist, Ledoux aims to use his videos to illustrate the fragility of the eco-system to climate change. 

The mountainous area of Jotunheimen is located in southern Norway. It is part of the long range known as the Scandinavian Mountains and is home to the country's 29 highest peaks. Drone pilot fotoknoff headed to the beautiful region to capture this stunning aerial film. Complete with shots of mountain bikers, cross country skiers, canoe boats, downhill skiers, and lovely shots of the boundless beauty the area has to offer this drone video will certainly leave you feeling inspired. Top contributor haussmannvisuals created this stunning aerial tour of Norway's Lofoten Islands during the glorious summer months. The Lofotens are a chain of islands which lie off the coast of northern Norway, just within the Arctic Circle. For centuries, the islands were known for their cod fisheries, as giant schools of the fish come south from the Barents Sea to spawn off their shores. In more recent years, they have emerged as one of the up-and-coming travel destinations of Scandinavia. This video was a DVOW finalist in September, 2019.

In this Drone Video of the Week nominated video by DroneDirector, you'll get an aerial tour from the Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic Ocean.  Consisting of 18 main islands, the archipelago is known for its rugged, largely untouched terrain and sub polar oceanic climate, meaning it is frequently windy, wet, cloudy, and cool. This video covers three of the group's 18 islands: Eysturoy, the second largest of the islands; Streymoy, the largest and most populated island; and Vagar, the most westerly of the islands.  

Drone Video Award finalist borsch created this beautiful video record of an epic 7k km (around 4k mi.) trip through Norway.  The video uses a combination of drone footage (DJI Mavic Pro 1 & 2) and ground footage.  In just 60 seconds, you will get a whirlwind tour of the country, home to some of the world's most beautiful scenery.  Highlights include shots of the Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), the famous Henningsvær football field in the Lofoten Islands, and more. Take an aerial tour of the Scandinavian country Denmark in this remarkable drone video by contributor and drone pilot Yan Nielsen.  Denmark is the smallest of the mainland Nordic countries by land area, but in population it's second only to Sweden.  While the video features footage from across the country, most of the focus is on the capital city Copenhagen.  The city is built on the island of Zeeland on the Strait of Øresund, a narrow waterway which is one of the four routes between the Baltic and North Seas.  

Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland and one of the largest in Europe.  Within its massive area of 8.1k square km (3k square mi) lie many caves resulting from the icecap's melting patterns.  Contributor Snorrithor flew his DJI Phantom 3 drone into one of these caves, creating a one of a kind "aerial" of this gigantic cavern.  The glacier is the land "Beyond the Wall" in Westeros in HBO's Game of Thrones; the video was a Winner for the Game of Drones category in the AirVuz Drone Video Awards.

Enjoy this marvelous aerial tour of the Finnish capital of Helsinki, compliments of contributor and pilot Riband Kurd.  Situated on the north side of the Gulf of Finland (an inlet of the Baltic Sea), Helsinki is the center of the fourth-largest urban area in Scandinavia after Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo.  It's also distinguished as being the northernmost metropolitan area in the world.  The video features footage of some of the city's top sights, including Senate Square, the Government Palace, and Helsinki Cathedral.

Top contributor Ultraprod combined drone, ground camera, and even helicopter footage to create this stunning DVOW Finalist video of the Faroe Islands. The video opens with a great shot of two of the more iconic sites of the archipelago: the Mykines lighthouse and the  Drangarnir arched sea-stack off the island of Vágar. Other notable highlights include Vágar's Mulafossur and Bøssdalafossur Waterfalls at the 1:20 and 1:57 marks, and a closing shot of the sharkfin-shaped tiny islet of Tindhólmur.

Even though Scandinavia is (more or less)( synonymous with Northern Europe, only a relatively small part of the region lies above the Arctic Circle - about half of Norway, roughly a third of Finland, a sixth of Sweden, a tiny slice of Ieland, and none of mainland Denmark.  That's part of what makes this drone video by Panoramix so fascinating.  It was filmed in the northernmost parts of Finland and Norway, well above the 22.5 degree north latitude parallel that marks the beginning of the Arctic Circle.

Take a trip through the magical region of Western Norway with top AirVūz contributor and drone pilot aqua william.  The video includes footage of the following locations in the region: Romsdalen, a 60 km long (roughly 36 mi.) valley in Møre og Romsdal and Innlandet Counties; the town of Åndalsnes along the Isfjorden; and the Ålesund Region in Møre og Romsdal County, which is home to some of Scandinavia's most iconic scenery.  This video earned a Drone Video of the Week nomination in October of  2020. 

Top AirVuz contributor AndriThor chalked up a second Drone Video of the Week Win in April of 2021 with this amazing piece from Iceland.  The video alternates between scenes of nature and "civilization" on this volcanic North Atlantic island, which in recent years has been seeing tourist traffic of over 10x its full-time population of around 350k.  Ride along for some epic views of some of Iceland's legendary landscapes, as well as shots of some of its iconic villages and the capital city of Reykjavik.

With time-lapses of the Northern Lights and countless mountain peaks; top-down shots of the famous black sand beaches and volcanoes; panning and reveals of waterfalls, green and gold hills, and icebergs - this video has it all.  A Drone Video of the Week winner in late 2018, the video was the winner of the  People's Choice Award at the second annual Drone Video Awards.
