The Monument to San Miguel Arcángel is a prominent landmark in the Ecuadorian city of Ibarra. It's situated in the hills overlooking the city, which is one of the main urban centers in the northern part of the country. Founded in the early 17th century, Ibarra lies at the foot of the Imbabura Volcano. It's about an hour's drive northeast of the Ecuadorean capital city, Quito. The Monument to San Miguel Arcángel is a sculpture located in a viewpoint three kilometers from the city of Ibarra, from which you get a beautiful view of the city and the Yahuarcocha lagoon. The sculpture was made in honor of the archangel San Miguel for being the patron saint of Ibarra. You can see the entire city of Ibarra with its population growth, direct view of the Cerro Imbabura, Guayabillas Protective Forest, seen from the left towards the Yahuarcocha lagoon; deforested slopes. San Miguel Arcángel is considered by the residents the patron and guardian of Villa de San Miguel de Ibarra. The image of the Archangel San Miguel is located on the Alto de Reyes hill in the Priorato neighborhood. Now the Mirador offers an improved image.
