Fort Proctor from Shell Beach Louisiana
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
New Orleans, Louisiana was one of the most important port cities in 19th century America. Following its invasion by British forces during the War of 1812, a series of defensive positions were built to counter future seaborne incursions. Fort Proctor, also known as Fort Beauregard, is situated on the shores of Lake Borgne, a lagoon of the Gulf of Mexico just east of the Big Easy. Seen in this drone video by AirVuz contributor travelerwithdrone, construction of the fort began just before the Civil War and it was never completed.

This was my first long distance flight from a couple years ago (very nervous) Fort Proctor was built in the 1850s. It was intended to be part of the fortifications protecting water routes towards New Orleans. The fort was never garrisoned, leaving it abandoned due to hurricane damage and also due to becoming obsolete because of artillery improvements. This video footage was taken with a DJI Mavic Pro Platinum which was flown from Shell Beach Louisiana. The fort is only accessible by boat or kayak and is about a mile from Shell Beach. With tail wind going out, the drone traveled at the speed of 35mph and took 2 minutes to arrive at its destination. Returning against the wind, it traveled at about 10mph and took 6 minutes to come back.
