AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot FPVFlow brings us this excellent FPV tour of a famous fortress in northern Italy. The Fort of Exilles is located in the Susa Valley, just west of the city of Turin in the region of Piedmont. One of a group of fortresses which once guarded the border between the lands of the House of Savoy (predecessor to the modern state of Italy) and France. The current fortress was built in the 1820's following the destruction of an earlier structure on the same site by Napoleon Bonaparte.

The Exilles Fort - Piedmont | A drone view of a medieval defence of Savoy’s borders

The Exilles Fort is an ancient building, at least its “foundations”… This fort is referred to for the first time in the 7th century, but what you can see nowadays it’s the more recent renovations from the Napoleonic era.

The Fort was used by the military force up to WWII.

Now it houses two beautiful alpine museums… and it endures drone flights above its impressive walls overlooking Susa valley.

Did you know that the famous historical character known as L'homme au masque de fer (The Man in the Iron Mask) spent some years captive in the fortress jail?
