Kolob Terrace: Zion National Park

Top AirVuz contributor Allan Crawford used a DJI Mavic Pro 3 drone to create this marvelous aerial video from a spectacular rock formation in the Southwestern USA. The Kolob Terrace is located just outside of Zion National Park in southwestern Utah, not far from Utah's southern border with Arizona. It's one of the natural wonders of of this area, where the Colorado Plateau, Great Basin, and Mojave Desert come together in a series of magnificent canyons and other geological wonders produced in over 150 million years of sedimentation.

Enjoying southern Utah and it's remarkable scenery. Southern Utah has some of the most spectacular scenery of anywhere in the world. The multicolored rocks, the towering cliffs, the spectacular canyons. One of the very special areas is in and around Zion National Park. The area is characterized by sweeping rock formations and canyons. The rocks are largely Jurassic in age (200 million years plus or minus a few million years). The rocks consist of the Kayante Formation, which was formed at the southern edge of a great desert by streams and swamps. Dinosaurs roamed the area and their tracks can be found imbedded in the silt and sandstones of the Kayante Formation. The overlying white rocks of the Navajo Sandstone formed as part of an desert similar to the modern day Sahara. The desert extended from central Wyoming to Southeastern California, with the thickest deposits in and around Zion.
