Maritime Life on the Mississippi River
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Check out this marvelous drone video of the Lower Mississippi River in New Orleans, Louisiana, compliments of contributor Bumble Bee Productions. Most of the video was shot around the Harvey Lock, which connects the river to the Harvey Canal, providing a "shortcut" to the Gulf of Mexico. The locks sit at the northern end of the canal, connecting to the river near the bottom of the "U" it forms as the waterway movves past New Orleans. The video also has some great footage of ship traffic along the river, one of the world's busiest.

I rarely travel to the Westbank in New Orleans but quickly realized I need to visit more often after droning in Algiers Point. I discovered Harvey, Louisiana and found the Harvey lock (A lock is a device used for raising and lowering boats, ships and other watercraft between stretches of water of different levels on river and canal waterways.) and people were fishing and just enjoying the busy Mississippi. I launched from this spot just at the right time, the busiest I have ever seen the Mississippi River. Tankers, Pushboats and barges, containers ships and even the birds around me were active. I just droned until I ran out of batteries (5). Harvey is quite the maritime and industrial town with pockets of life along this great river.
