Melbourne Up Close - DJI Mavic 3 Pro

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

Top contributor Gizmo Drone used the three onboard cameras of the DJI Mavic Pro 3 drone combined with filters to produce some magnificent aerial views of Melbourne, Australia.   The video showcases three basic views of the city, with and without the filter attachments: (1) close-up shots of the Central Business District (CBD); (2) shots of the Queen Victoria statue in Domain Gardens facing north, with the white spire of Arts Centre Melbourne behind it and the CBD in the background; and (3) the great sports complex east of the CBD.

BADGES THIS VIDEO HAS EARNED:

This video captures some shots of Melbourne using my new DJI Mavic 3 Pro drone and Freewell ND and GND Gradient filters. I have been using this drone with these filters over the last couple of weeks and it has been a joy to capture shots from each of the 3 inbuilt cameras. The 3x and 7x optical zoom cameras means I can now capture close ups from a safe distance.

My only real criticism is that 3 camera sensors vary in quality and have different features. Nevertheless I still found them all useful for capturing creative and cinematic looking shots. The 7x zoom sensor is the weakest sensor and it did struggle in low light. The 3x Zoom sensor is the same sensor as in the DJI Mini 3 Pro and it is a very good sensor. Of course the 1x 4/3" Hasselblad sensor captures awesome shots and it is easier to edit and produces a better image. Let's hope DJI puts a variable zoom lens on this sensor one day (like the old DJI Mavic Zoom).

A big shout out to Freewell who were very kind to send me ND filters for this drone. I really appreciate it as I would have bought these Freewell filters anyway. They sent me their DJI Mavic 3 Pro Standard Day 4Pack plus their DJI Mavic 3 Pro Soft Edge Gradient GND0.9 & GND1.2 - 2Pack

I always like to test a new drone and having these filters gave me a chance to test the cameras with and without ND filters. I didn't do an exhaustive test but you can definitely see the difference in this video. All of the shots were captured in 4K 30fps 1/60 shutter standard colour. I felt this would be best for this test since LOG is not available for all 3 sensors.

I should add that I always use Freewell ND filters for filming video during day light. The Freewell ND filters for the Mavic 3 Pro were perfect. I read that they balanced the ND filter to suit each sensor so that the footage is similar from each sensor. You can see that when you look at the filter.

I was very impressed with the GND filter as it allowed the foreground to capture more light without over-exposing the sky and the result was impressive low light shots. Note to self, get a Freewell GND filter for my Nano+ drone as it could really use it for low light shots.

I hope you like this video and best of luck with your drone and videography journey, if you are into that sort of thing. Cheers, Brett

Disclaimer: Freewell sent these filters to me (I am grateful as I do use Freewell ND filters) however I wasn't asked to do a test and I am not being paid to do a test. I am a drone enthusiast who loves to play with new drone tech and to share online.
