2020 Drone Videos of the Week: Episode 18

Ghent is the capital city of Belgium's Flanders region, as the northern part of the country is known. Situated at the confluence of the Scheldt and Leie Rivers, it's Belgium's third-largest city. Ghent was founded in the early Middle Ages, and by 1300 it was the largest city in Europe north of Paris.  Devastated during the 80 Years War in the 16th-17th centuries, it remains an important commercial center. In this DVOW nominated video by in*motion, you'll get an aerial tour of this great cultural and historical treasure.  

DVOW Nominees DigitalTravelCouple brings us this magnificent drone video from the fabled Indonesian province of Bali. The video opens with some epic shots of the volcanoes which cover much of the northern part of the main island, before heading south to the rice terraces in and around Ubud. Other shots will show the island's rainforest and copious waterfalls. Some of the best footage is from the tiny islands of Nusa Penida and Nusa Cenigan, which lie to the southeast of the main island.  

Top AirVuz contributor Ghadir Shaar, a Finalist for the Drone Video Awards for his video from the United Arab Emirates, created this DVOW winning piece from a different Middle Eastern country: Jordan. Created in collaboration with the Jordan Tourism Board, the video opens with footage from the other-worldly Wadi Rum Desert. Other highlights include the Citadel of Amman at the :47 mark, the shores of the Dead Sea (:55), the great Petra ruins complex in the Arabah Valley (1:30), the amphitheater ruins at Jerash (1:42), and more.  

AirVuz contributor antoncha brings us this amazing DVOW nominated film from a trip to Italy before the country was virtually shut down by the Covid-19 pandemic.  The video features footage from the following locations:  (1) the town of Pitigliano in southern Tuscany, (2)  the nearby springs of Terme di Saturnia, (3) the Cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta in the Tuscan city of Siena, (4) the Tuscan seaside town of Forte Dei Marmi, and (5)-(6) the idyllic towns of Vernazza and Portofino, two of the Cinque Terre towns of the Italian Riviera in Liguria.

World traveler extraordinaire and former Drone Video of the Week nominee rememorales brings us this stunning reel from his adventures around the world.  The video opens with an epic motorcycle shot from the Atacama Desert in Chile, followed by an equally epic shot from a stunning rice terrace in Nepal.  At about the :43 mark, there's a marvelous shot of Seattle, Washington, followed by an overhead of iconic St. Mark's Square in Venice.  Other highlights include a giant Buddha on the plain of Thailand, downtown Bangkok, and more.
