Set in the wine country of Italy's Tuscany region, this dronie by contributor Druno is very unique for its epic "reveal". The video begins with a shot of the pilot sitting in a chair near a table.  Then it reveals his companion sitting on a couch pouring a glass of wine.  In one continuous shot, it flies out the window, providing a magnificent shot of the Tuscan countryside.   This video was picked as a Finalist in the Dronie category for the second annual Drone Video Awards.

On a visit to the Italian region of Tuscany, contributor Jonaharding was able to use a drone to film the  walled town of  Monteriggioni.  Situated in the inland province Siena, the town was built in the Middle Ages.  Its 14 towers are marvels of Italian architecture, and the rolling hills surrounding it, with their vineyards and ancient estates, are magnificent.  Enjoy the bird's eye views of this spectacular Italian comune, which was mentioned in Dante's 14th century epic poem Divine Inferno.

The Tuscan town of Pisa is known around the world for its leaning tower, a bell tower which was constructed in the 12th century on ground which turned out to be too soft.  Now stabilized (if still tilted), the Leaning Tower of Pisa is flanked by the rows of picturesque streets and charming red roofs.  The 57 meter (186 ft.) building has become one of Italy's most iconic sites.  Drone pilot Gianlo also used the perfect lighting of the setting sun to create a postcard like feel for this idyllic cityscape.

Elba is the largest and best known islands of Italy's Tuscany province.  It is part of a small archipelago which sits a short distance offshore of Piombino, between the Italian mainland and the (larger) French island Corsica to its west.  Contributor (and second annual Drone Video Award nominee) ZilverSchmitz took a drone on a trip to Elba, producing this amazing aerial look at this island, the location to which Napoleon Bonaparte was first exiled in 1814 prior to making his last stand at Waterloo.

Contributor Gioorig brings us this beautiful aerial view of an area called Chianti in the heart of Italy's Tuscany region.  It's a municipality that consists of several villages, three of which have "Chianti" as part of their name.  The area is in Siena, one of the southern provinces of the Tuscany region, roughly between the provincial capital Siena and the Tuscan capital city of Florence.  The area has been closely identified with winegrowing since at least the 13th century AD.

Contributor Nathan Jermy created this inspiring drone video of Florence, the great city of the Italian Renaissance.  The opening and ending shots of the video focus on one of Florence's most famous landmarks: the Ponte Vecchio bridge, which spans 32 meters (just over 100 ft.) across the Arno River.  While there was a bridge here as long ago as Roman times, the current bridge was built in the 14th century and survived World War II intact despite damage to other parts of the city.

Contributor Lorenzo created this beautiful drone video of a an ancient town in Italy which may be credited with the invention of the pistol.  Pistoia is a small town in Tuscany, a half hour's drive from the great city of Florence.  The extraordinarily well preserved Pistoia was settled well before Christ and is believed to be the city from which the pistol gun originated in the 16th century.  Watch the video and you'll get an epic bird's eye view of the Piazza del Duomo in the city center.

Srls used a variety of drone-mounted and ground cameras to create this beautiful aerial portrait of Manciano, a town in west-central Italy.  It's in the province of Grosetto, the southernmost province of Italy's Tuscany region.  The area is known in part for a classical music festival which draws thousands of visitors.  The video was produced in order to highlight the extensive road and trail system available to bikers, who have discovered the beautiful rolling hills of the region.

Tuscany has so much to offer in terms of its glorious cities and wineries that its mountains are sometimes overlooked.  That's a mistake though: the Apuan Alps in northern Tuscany offer some of the most spectacular natural sights in all of Italy.  They are considered a sub-range of the Appenine chain which runs down the "spine" of Italy; their highest peaks are just over 1.9k meters (around 4.4k ft.).  See them in this beautiful aerial video of the Apuans, compliments of contributor and drone pilot Mike24_ph.

Here's a nice look at the small island of Elba, which is situated off the western coast of Italy.  It's the largest in a group of islands called the Tuscan Archipelago, which are arrayed (as the name suggests) off the coast of the Tuscany region between the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Seas, both of which are considered extensions of the Mediterranean.  The specific spot shown in this video by contributor kpax is the area around Capoliveri, which lies on a peninsula off the southeast part of the island.

Srls created this stunning drone video from Italy's Tuscan coastline.  It's an area called Maremma, which covers parts of southern Tuscany and northern Lazio.  Situated on the Tyrrhenian Sea (considered an extension of the Mediterranean).  The area was once covered in marshland and almost inaccessible due to malaria, prior to the wetlands being drained in the 16th century.  That was then; now it's one of mainland Italy's top beach areas.

Florence, Italy, the capital of the country's Tuscany region, is situated on the banks of the Arno River, one of the country's most important waterways.  As much as any city on earth, the city is inseparabe from its bridges.  In this drone video by Lego, you'll get a marvelous bird's eye view of the great city's numerous spans.  The centerpiece is the Ponte Vecchio with its distinctive enclosed design.  The current rendition dates to the 14th century, but it's believed there was a bridge here during Roman times.

The area around Carrara in Tuscany, Italy is known for its marble quarries.  Located about an hour northwest of Florence in the province of Massa & Carrara, it has been supplying Italy (and the world) high quality marble since Roman times.  One of the Carrara quarries was used to film part of the chase scene which opened the 2008 James Bond film Quantum of Solace, the 24th of the series.  In this video by Enrico Pescantini, you'll get a bird's eye view of one of the famed Carrara marble quarries.

Italy's Tuscany region is partially covered in mountains (the Appenine chain which runs down the "spine" of Italy) but it's probably better known for its hills.  The famous Tuscan rolling hills are an area of Tuscany which lie in the triangle formed by Florence, Siena, and Arezzo, between the mountains (to the east) and the sea (to the west).  Known as Chianti, it's also home to some of the world's most famous winegrowing areas.  Check out these beautiful hills from above in this drone video by contributor franllano.

Check out this amazing drone video of a well-known landmark in Italy's Tuscany region, compliments of contributor Gioorig.  It's called the Cross of Pratomagno, and its sits atop one of the mountains of the Pratomagno masif in Arezzo, the easternmost of the provinces which make up Tuscany.  The iron cross, completed in 1928, sits atop the crest of the main mountain ridge. This masif, which is part of the Appenine Mountains range, has a peak elevation of just under 1.6k meters (about 5.3k ft.).
