The Morning Grind in Denver

armando_m...

Contributor Armandom created this beautiful drone video of Denver, Colorado on a typically bright and sunny morning.  Nicknamed the Mile High City because of its altitude, Denver now has a metropolitan population of around 3 million, making it (by a considerable margin) the largest city in the entire Rocky Mountain region.  It is situated near the base of the range in northeastern Colorado, where the Great Plains transition to the alpine environment of America's largest mountain range.

Empower Field at Mile High is the latest name for the home field of the Denver Broncos of the National Football League.  Located just southwest of downtown, the 76k seat stadium opened in 2001.  It's gone under several different names, most of which were variations on the name of the Broncos' first home field: Mile High Stadium, in reference to the city's elevation of over 5k ft. (around 1.6k meters) above sea level.  Check out the home of the 3x Super Bowl champions from above in this drone video by Blaze.

Somewhat unusually amongst US states, Colorado's capital is also its largest city: Denver.  The epicenter of the state government is the Colorado State Capitol, which houses the state's General Assembly as well as the offices of Governor and Lieutenant Governor.  The distinctive white stone, gold-domed building is situated in the Capital Hill district, southeast of the downtown core.  Contributor Blaze created this excellent drone video of the historic building, which was constructed in 1894.

Check out this drone video of Denver's Coors Field, compliments of contributor and pilot Blaze.  The stadium opened in 1995 as the home of Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies, who played their first two seasons as an expansion team in the original (and now demolished) Mile High Stadium.  Located in the Lower Downtown (LoDo) section on the western side of downtown, the famously home run-friendly park seats about 47k fans for regular games.   Coors Field hosted the 1998 All-Star baseball game.

Denver, Colorado became a major city in the late 1800's as a rail junction.  Where this all came together was Union Station, which became one of the most important rail facilities in the Western USA.  Beginning in the early 2000's, a series of redevelopment projects turned the station into a modern commuter transportation hub, transforming the look of the entire district, just northwest of the core downtown.  You can see the results of this massive urban renewal project in this drone video by Blaze.

Check out this drone video of the world's largest beer facory, compliments of contributor Blaze.  It's the main brewery of the Coors Brewing Company in Golden, Colorado, a western suburb or Denver.  Founded by a German immigrant named Adolph Coors in 1873, Coors was largely a regional brand until the 1970's, whereupon it embarked on a large expansion and became the USA's third-largest brewer.  In 2005, the company was acquired by Canada's Molson Brewing, which is now the #3 worldwide brewer.

Contributor Blaze used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone to bring to life one of the cultural landmarks of the USA's Rocky Mountain region: the Denver Art Museum.  DAM (as it's known) is one of the largest art museums between Chicago and the West Coast.  It's located in the city's Civic Center neighborhood, between the Capitol Hill and Lodo Districts.   Now occupying a small campus, the museum has over 70,000 works, and is known in particular for its works of Native American art.

The University of Colorado's flagship campus is in Boulder, an outer suburb Denver.  Founded in 1876, the school currently has about 33k students enrolled, of which about 80% are undergraduate.  The school's athletic teams play as the Colorado Buffalos, which competes in the PAC-10 league of the NCAA.  UC's beautiful campus south of the Pearl Street Mall has turned Boulder into one of the USA's most idyllic college towns.  Check out the UC-Boulder campus from above in this drone video by Blaze.

Thank You

armando_m...

Amandom brings us this phenomenal aerial tour of Denver, Colorado as the unoffical capital of the USA's Rocky Mountain Region was under community quarantine during the Covid-19 pandemic.  The video shows the city's empty streets, the empty streets of Coors Field (home of the Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball team), and wraps with a great shot of the Union Station complex.  Colorado was one of the USA's early Covid-19 "hotspots", although by late April social distancing measures had slowed the spread of the virus.
