Huesca: Spain Like You've Never Seen

Check out this amazing drone video from a couple of gorgeous spots in northern Spain.  Agüero is a town in the foothills of the Pyrenees, in the province of Huesca.  Lake Vadiello is also located in the province; the two sites form the top of a triangle with the provincial capital city Huesca occupying the southern point.  The entire area is part of the semi-automous province of Aragon, which covers much of the north central part of the country which was one of the cornerstones of the creation of modern Spain.

Contributor D_Drone created this beautiful drone video of one of the most famous castles in Spain.  The Castle of Loarre is a Romanesque castle near the eponymously named town in Huesca in the Aragon region of northern Spain.  The castle was constructed in the 11th-12th centuries, when most of modern-day Spain was in Moorish hands and this area was at the frontier between Christian and Muslim Europe.  The castle "starred" in Ridley Scott's 2005 (semi-) historical epic Kingdom of Heaven.

The Organs of Montoro (Los Órganos de Montoro) are a group of large limestone rocks in northern Spain.  They are situated near the municipality of Villarluengo in Taruel, one of the three provinces which make up the region of Aragon.  With huge vertical cliffs, the mountains derive their name from their resemblance to musical organ pipes.  In this drone video by Markus Kanal, you'll get an aerial view of these mountains, which have been declared a national monument by Spanish government.

Featured in Season 6 of the hit HBO series "Game of Thrones," the lunar landscape of Bardenas Reales Natural Park's in Spain's Navarre region was a perfect filming location for the Dothraki's home.  James Bond fans will also recognize the area: it was the site of the "nuclear bunker" in The World is Not Enough (1999), the 21st movie in the series.  Check it out for yourself in this aerial film by Heilongbaixin, which also features footage of the Anisco Canyon in Huesca, which is part of the Aragon region.

Recreation of the Battle of the Ebro

Contributor Sobrevolando created this amazing drone video of a recreation of a famous event in the Spanish Civil War.  During that conflict in the late 1930's, the Ebro River in Aragon and Catalonia was the site of a bloody battle between the warring sides.  On November 16, 1938, the Republican forces who had been on the defensive gave way and were forced back across the river by the Nationalist advance.  This ended the six month Battle of the Ebro, considered the war's decisive campaign.

Contributor WeIS Productions created this beautiful drone video from the Spanish Pyrenees, just south of the border with France.  Aratorés is situated in the north part of the province of Huesca, the northernmost of the three provinces which make up the autonomous region of Aragon.  The video uses some clever editing, showing the village both in the warmer months as well as the winter.  It was shot with a DJI Mavic Pro drone and also uses some ground camera footage.

Check out this drone video of a trip through the Pyrenees Mountains in northern Spain, compliments of contributor Matt38130.  It was filmed in the province of Huesca, the northernmost of the three provinces which make up the semi-autonomous region of Aragon.  The video features footage of the Bujaruelo valley; the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park; and Broto, a municipality in the eponymously named valley.  Since the 17th century, the crest of the Pyrenees has serve as the international boundary between France and Spain.

Contributor D_Drone used a drone to aerially film a well known rock formation in northern Spain.  The Mallets of Riglos (Mallos de Riglos) is a series of conglomerate rock formations in the town of Las Peñas de Riglos in Huesca, one of the provinces of the country's Aragon region.  Part of the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains, the rocks reach an elevation of about 1k meters (around 3.3k ft.).  They are reachable via a roughly 45 minute drive from the provincial capital and are a popular climbing destination.

Contributor Jonatan_Joy created this beautiful drone video of one of the highest peaks in the Pyrenees Mountains.  Monte Perdido is part of the national park of the same name in the province of Huesca, in the region of Aragon.  With a peak elevation of 3.35k meters (just over 11k ft.), it's the third highest mountain in the entire Pyrenees system.  While the mountain's peak is very close to the French border, access to it from France is very difficult due to the presence of some steep intervening mountains.

Check out this beautiful drone video of an old Moorish town in north central Spain, compliments of Ono1979.  Alcalá de la Selva is situated in the province of Teruel, the southernmost of the three provinces which make up the semi-autonomous region of Aragon.  Like virtually all of the Iberian Peninsula, it came under Muslim (Moorish) control late in the First Milennium.  Late in the 12th century, it was taken by King Alfonso II of Aragon as part of the centuries-long struggle known as the Reconquesta.

Sobrevolando created this beautiful drone video of Bajo Aragón a county in the Teruel province of northern Spain.  Teruel is the southernmost of the three provinces which make up the autonomous region of Aragon.  It's in the Sistema Ibérico, a chain of mountains which runs on a northwest-to-southeast axis across much of northern Spain.  This area has seen massive de-population since the Spanish Civil War, one of the rural areas which has fed the growth of Barcelona and Madrid.

Contributor and drone pilot Ppsanchezf created this drone video of a town in north central Spain which was virtually destroyed during the Spanish Civil War.  Belchite is located in the province of Zaragoza, the middle (north to south) of the three provinces which make up the official region of Aragon.  In August and September of 1937, Nationalist and Loyalist forces fought a battle here which essentially turned Belchite into a ghost town.  A "new" Belchite was subsequently built nearby.

Contributor and drone pilot Rescuebcn created this amazing aerial video of a well-known modern shrine in northern Spain.  It's called Torreciudad, and it's devoted to Saint Mary.  Consecrated in 1975, it's located in the province of Huesca, the northernmost of the three provinces which make up Spain's Aragon region.  The shrine is built on the Embalse del Grado, a reservoir lakein the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains which was a part of a major Franco-era hydroelectricity project.

Contributor Rescuebcn created this amazing drone video of a town in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains in Spain.  It's called Alquézar, and it's in the province of Huesca in the Aragon region, which covers much of north-central Spain.  The town sits on an impressive-looking limestone outcrop, just one of countless unusual rock formations in this part of the country.  The town, which dates to the 11th century AD, occupies a position which was of considerable strategic advantage during the Middle Ages.

Take a look at this stunning aerial video of an important mountain in the Pyrenees in northern Spain, compliments of contributor Martinejant.  The mountain is called Pic de Vallibierna, and it's situated in the Huesca Province in the region of Aragon, which covers much of the north-central part of the country.  The mountain has a peak elevation of a bit over 3.05k meters, or a bit over 10k ft., making it one of the higher mountains in this chain which straddles northern Spain and southern France.

Contributor pepinair created this beautiful drone video of a well-known monastery in the Aragon region of north-central Spain.  It's called Nuestra Señora de las Fuentes, and it's located in the municipality of Sariñena in Huesca, the northernmost of the three provinces which make up the semi-autonomous Aragon region. Founded in the 16th century, the monastery is devoted to the order of Saint Bruno and in its current configuration reflects the Baroque architectural style.  It is known for its large interior paintings.

Some of the most unusual landscapes in Spain are to be found in a desert "badlands" area of the Aragon region called the Monegros.  Here, unusual erosion patterns have created spectacular rock formations like what you will see in this drone video by contributor pepinair.  The centerpiece of the video is the pedestal shaped Tozal de la Cobeta.  Chronically prone to drought, the Monegros areas covers portions of Zaragosa and Huesca, two of the provinces which make up the Aragon region.

Contributor Rescuedron created this excellent drone video of an impressive-looking dam in northern Spain.  It's called the El Grado Dam, and it's located on the Cinca River in the province of Huesca.  The dam here created the Embalse del Grado reservoir lake.  It's one of several large flood control and hydroelectricity projects along the river, one of the most important waterways in the Aragon region.  It flows on a generally southwards course to converge with the Ebro River.

Contributor Rescuedrone brings us this aerial view of some marvelous scenery in the Spanish Pyrenees. It was filmed in and around the municipality of Estopiñán in Huesca, the northernmost province of the Aragon region.  The video features some rare footage of the so-called “Chinese Wall of Finestres", a little known but spectacular natural site.  As seen at around the 1:35 mark, it's actually a rock formation over the Ribagorçana River that appears to be of human origin but which is completely natural in origin.

Check out this beautiful drone video from the foothills of the Spanish Pyrenees, compliments of kaibbbb.  It was filmed around the town of Isabena, which is in Huesca, the northernmost of the three provinces which make up the Aragon region of north-central Spain.  The mountains here are known as the Morrón de Güell range.  They constitute a set of foothills of the great Pyrenees range, which serves as the borderlands between Spain and its neighbor France to the north.
