The Dutch city of Rotterdam is probably best known for its large container port, the busiest in Europe.   The city's rich history has largely been forgotten, primarily because the core of the city was destroyed by an infamous German bombing in the early months of World War II, an act which led to a quick Dutch surrender in order to avoid even more civilian casualties.  One of the only buildings left standing in the May, 1940 bombardment was the Witte Huis, seen here in this drone video.  Completed in 1898, it was Europe's tallest building for a time.
