Walls of History II

If you have seen HBO's Game of Thrones, you've seen the Castillo de Almodóvar del Río, the castle in southern Spain which was the shooting location for part of the show's seventh season.  The castle is situated in the province of Cordoba, part of Spain's semi-autonomous Andalusia region.  In this video, contributor Eminorcks gives us an epic bird's eye view of this castle, which was an important center of rule during Spain's period under Islam.

Roadtrip Spain

Contributor DomiSchleu's epic roadtrip through Spain allowed him to create this amazing aerial tour of many of these regions.  The video includes amazing aerial footage of Andalusia, Sevile, Murcia, Valencia, and Catalonia.  At the 1:38 mark, you'll see the bullring of Osuna, in Sevile.  This bullring, no longer used as such, was the filming location for a key fight scene (involving dragons, not bulls) in HBO's Game of Thrones, Season 5, Episode 9.

The island nation of Malta lies close to the center of the Mediterranean Sea, between Sicily and the African coast.  Contributor Oliverastrologo created this stunning aerial tour of this beautiful spot, which includes epic shots of the harbor at Valletta, the ancient walled city of Mdina, and at the :40 mark the Azure Window rock formation (which subsequently collapsed); all were used extensively as filming locations in Season 1 of HBO's Game of Thrones.

Spirit Of Malta

Valetta is Malta's capital city, lying on the eastern coast of the main island in the Mediterranean.  In this video, contributor Eminorcks gives us a bird's eye view of this beautiful 16th century city and the surrounding shoreline.  Fort Ricasoli, which you'll see in the video, was the shooting location for the Red Keep in Season 1 of HBO's Game of Thrones series.  It was used as a shooting location in the 2004 blockbuster movie "Troy" starring Brad Pitt, much of which was shot in Malta.

Medina The Ancient City Malta

AD Drone

Mdina, renowned for it's well preserved walls and city gate, is one of the most popular tourism destinations in Malta and was a filming location for in Season 1 of Game of Thrones.  Fans may remember seeing the Gate of Mdina when Catelyn and Ser Rodrick Cassel, in an effort to find answers about Bran, arrived at King's Landing.  Videographer AD Drone captured stunning footage of this historic city to showcase it's beauty from above.

Gozo, Malta - Aerial Footage [Drone] [1080p]

Gozo is part of the archipelago of the nation of Malta in the Mediterranean, lying to the north of the main island.  It is the second largest island in the group, more hilly and rural compared to the main island with its larger cities.  Game of Thrones fans may recognize The Azure Window in Gozo, the filming location for the wedding feast for Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO series Game of Thrones.  Contributor Zzlat used a DJI Phantom 3 drone to capture aerial views of this paradise of Gozo in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.

Perhaps Last Flight into the Azure Window. Malta Gozo Comino

Contributor oben360 was one of the last drone pilots to fly through the now-mythical Azure Window, a rock formation off the coast of the island of Gozo, the second island of Malta.  The window collapsed in 2017, disappearing forever.  Prior to its collapse, it was burned into the world's cultural conciousness by appearing in HBO's Game of Thrones series.  The arch was where Daenerys married Khal Drogo in the pilot episode of the series.

Valletta is the historic and stunning capital of the island of Malta. The city, built by the Knights of St. John, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was once given the nickname “Superbissima” – Italian for “Most Proud.” It also served as a prime filming location for many King's Landing scenes in Season 1 on Game of Thrones. Using a DJI Mavic Pro, drone pilot rikk08 shot the stunning aerial views of this historic city.

Mdina -The Silent City

The small Maltese city of Mdina, off the coast of Sicily, boasts a warm climate, beautiful Mediterranean architecture, and a rich history reaching back over 4000 years, making it an easy choice for filming the first season of HBO's Game of Throne's series.  It was the capital of Malta until 1530, when it lost that status, and subsequently much of its population, earning the nickname of The Silent City.' Drone pilot terencem filmed it's unrelenting beauty from above in this short video.
