Beyond the Wall

The Ice Cave - Drone Flying Inside an Ice Cave in Iceland

Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland and one of the largest in Europe.  Within its massive area of 8.1k square km (3k square mi) lie many caves resulting from the icecap's melting patterns.  Contributor Snorrithor flew his DJI Phantom 3 drone into one of these caves, creating a one of a kind "aerial" of this gigantic cavern.  The glacier is the land "Beyond the Wall" in Westeros in HBO's Game of Thrones; the video was a Winner for the Game of Drones category in the AirVuz Drone Video Awards.

King's Landing & Battle of Blackwater

Dubrovnik - King's Landing

iDrone Aer...

Avid traveler and content creator iDrone Aerials, gives us a cinematic HD view of the magnificent Croatian seaport city of Dubrovnik on the Adriatic Sea.  This well-preserved 11th century city on the Dalmation Coast has gotten an enormous boost in recent years after it was chosen as a filming location for seasons 2-8 of HBO's hit show "Game of Thrones" (Dubrovnik is the fictional King's Landing, capital city of Westeros.) This video was a finalist in the Game of Drones category for the 2nd Annual Drone Video Awards.

Fist of First Men & Frostfangs

ICELAND. Svinafellsjokull Glacier (Svinafell)

While producers of Game of Thrones relied upon artificial snow for the first season, they looked to genuinely snowy locations like Svinafellsjokull Glacier starting in Season 2, so that they could best capture the beautiful - yet - brutal landscapes of the land Beyond the Wall. Due to it's ideal form for filming harsh frozen scenes for major projects like GoT and 'Batman Begins', this remarkable ice mass, found in Skaftafell National Park, has been nicknamed the 'Hollywood Glacier.'

King's Landing & Battle of Blackwater Bay

Dubrovnik in Cinematic High Definition

Contributor Justin Poore created this stunning aerial tour of Dubrovnik, the magnificent Croatian city located at the southernmost tip of the country on the Dalmatian Coast.  The city was the capital of the Republic of Ragusa in the late Medieval and Early Modern period, when it was one of the most important city-states in the eastern Mediterranean region.  Thanks in part to its extensive appearances in HBO's Game of Thrones series, Dubrovnik is now one of the top destinations anywhere in Southeastern Europe.

Exploring Cushendun Caves - Game of Thrones Filming Location

The fascinating Cushendun Caves of County Antrim in Nothern Ireland were formed over the course of 400 million years.  The caves offer unique photo opportunities and beautiful hiking, but have also claimed a bit of attention due to their serving as the 'Stormlands' in Season 2 of HBO's Game of Thrones.  The priestess Melisandre is escorted here by Davos Seaworth (at the behest of Stannis Baratheon), only to give birth shortly thereafter to a ominous shadow figure.  See the famous caves from above in this drone video by photasma.

Kingsroad & Port of Pyke

Northern Ireland

The United Kingdom region known as Northern Ireland was used extensively to film the HBO TV series Game of Thrones.  Examples include the The Dark Hedges in County Antrim (which served as the King's Road, used by Arya Stark to escape the city in Season 1), and Ballintoy Harbour in County Antrim (which stood in as Port of Pyke in Season 2, when Theon Greyjoy returned to the Iron Islands).  These are some of the amazing sights captured by AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Foto-events in his video recapping a trip to Northern Ireland.

Fist of First Men

Volare Vid...

Volare Video created this epic drone video of the Sólheimajökull glacier in southern Iceland.  The glacier is situated between two volcanoes and it's part of a larger structure called the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap.  The Mýrdalsjökull glacier was a primary filming location for HBO's TV series Game of Thrones, as the landscape provided the authentic snow and vertical relief they were seeking starting in Season 2.  It stood in as the 'Fist of the First Men' and is where Jon Snow's raiding party first ventured "beyond the wall."

Dragonstone Island

Downhill Sunset - Benone

Content creator and pilot Imaginelight brings us this phenomenal drone video from a well-known beach in Northern Ireland which appeared in HBO's hit TV series Game of Thrones.  Benone Beach (sometimes called Downhill Beach) is an 11 km (7 mi) stretch of beach at the very northern tip of Ulster, in County Londonderry.  This was one of the locations which Game of Thrones used for filming Seasons 2 and 7.  It was here where Red Witch Melisandre declared "for the night is dark and full of terrors”.

Beyond the Wall

Ultimate Iceland

This breathtaking aerial video by drone pilots Aleksander Petakov offers up the quintessential views for which Iceland is synonomous: sweeping panoramas of waterfalls, volcanoes, geysers and glaciers, including the beautiful views of the Vatnajökull ice cap which was the setting for several scenes in Season 2 of Game of Thrones on HBO.
