Ijen is a complex of volcanoes lying on the eastern end of Java, the most populous of the 17k+ islands in the Indonesian archipelago.  The volcano is known for a highly unusual looking blue colored fire in one of the craters, which is due to the presence of sulfur in sufficient quantities that it's mined here.  Award-winning aerial cinematographers Nava Visual Communication flew a drone over the various volcano craters and seeing the aerial video is akin to taking a virtual hike on the road to Kawah Ijen.

Banyuwangi: Java's Eastern Tip

Beautiful Banyuwangi | CINEMATIC DRONE DJI MAVIC 2 PRO

Check out this DVOW nominatied video of the easternmost tip of Java, Indonesia, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot elmandakrisna.   The regency (essentially, state or province) of Banyuwangi occupies the eastern end of the southernmost of the two "forks" of eastern Java.   The largest of Java's regencies by land area, Banyuwangi has a long southern coastline on the Indian Ocean and a somewhat shorter eastern coastline on the Strait of Bali, across which lies the strait's namesakle island.  Like much of Java, Banyuwangi's interior is mountainous.

Top contributor Sandrine Hecq collaborated with the Indonesia tourism board to create this stunning video from the Mt. Bromo volcano, one of the country's top attractions.  The mountain is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java, on the country's most populous island.  The mountain, which has a peak elevation of about just over 2.3k meters above sea level (about 7.6k ft.), has been in a state of near-eruption for much of the past few years.  This video was a DVOW nominee in June 2019

Bandung: West Java Capital City

Bandung (Java, Indonesia) from Above (4K)

Top AirVuz contributor and pilot BeemFlights brings us this DVOW nominated film from the great Indonesian city of Bandung. The capital of the province of West Java, Bandung is the country's fourth largest city (after Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bekasi) and the center of its third-largest metropolitan area.  Situated in a river valley and surrounded by mountains, Bandung's elevation of 770 meters above sea level (around 2.5k ft.) provides it with cooler climate compared to the country's other large cities.

Mt. Bromo and Ijen Crater

DroneCult : Burning Mountains (Bromo and Ijen Crater) 4K

Many of Indonesia's volcanoes pose spectacular hiking opportunities.  With modest elevations generally under 3k meters (around 10k ft.), hiking to the tops of these "peaks" can yield spectacular views into their craters.  In this video, contributor DroneCult aerially filmed amazing hiking trips to Mt. Bromo and Ijen Crater, both of which are in East Java (the province which lies at the eastern end of the island of Java).  The latter of the two volcanoes is taller, with an elevation of about 2.8k (9.2k ft) above sea level.

Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, East Java

Tumpak Sewu Waterfall

Top AirVuz contributor and two-time Drone Video of the Week Finalist DiamondSky put together this fantastic piece from one of Indonesia's most famous waterfalls.  Tumpak Sewu Waterfalls is located on the border between two regencies of the province of East Java.  The tiered waterfall is located below Mount Semeru, Java's highest volcano.  Fed by the Glidik River, the waterfall's name loosely translates to "a thousand waterfalls"; when you see the video, you will understand why this name is appropriate.

Mount Bromo: Java's Great Volcano

Mount Bromo

Fabio Knol...

Award-winning contributor and drone pilot Fabio Knoll created this epic aerial look at Mt. Bromo, an active volcano in East Java, Indonesia.  Named after a Hindu god, the volcano is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, which covers an eastern section of Indonesia's most populous island.  The volcano has been in a state of eruption or near-eruption during much of the 21st century thus far, leading to numerous warnings and advisories.  Nevertheless, it continues to be one of the biggest tourist attractions in Java.

Borobudur: World's Largest Buddhist Temple

The Magnificent Borobudur Temple | DJI Mavic 2 Zoom

AirVuz contributor and pilot ariotrihantoro brings us this excellent drone video of Indonesia's Borobudur complex, home of the world's largest Buddhist temple.  Built in the 9th century, Borobudur is located in the Magelang Regency, near the middle of the island of Java.  Constructed in the 9th century, the temple was abandoned for centuries beginning in the 1400's while much of modern-day Indonesia shifted to Islam.  Distinguished by its massive dome and the 70 Buddha statues which surround it, the temple is a  UNESCO World Heritage site.

Merapi: Indonesia's Most Active Volcano

Mount Merapi

Of Indonesia's many active volcanoes, the most active (and potentially the most dangerous) is Mt. Merapi.  It is situated near the middle of the island of Java, on the border between the provinces of Central Java and Yogyakarta.  With a peak elevation of just under 3k meters above sea level (around 9.7k ft.), the volcano has been erupting regularly for over 400 years.  As of 2019, it's one of 16 Decade Volcanoes thought to be the world's most dangerous.  You can check it out from a bird's eye in this drone video by drone_ulun.

Bandung: Indonesia's Third City

My Home Town: Bandung, Indonesia

Contributor and drone pilot r_prayugo used a DJI Phantom 3 drone to create this beautiful aerial view of the area around Bandung in West Java, Indonesia.  Bandung is the third-largest city in this giant Southeast Asian archipelago, after the capital Jakarta (also on the western side of Java) and Surabaya (on the opposite end of the island).  The city of Bandung is situated in a valley surrounded by various volcanic-origin mountains.  The video is shot primarily in the hilly area around the city.

Central Java's Mt. Sindoro

Crater of Mount. Sindoro

Indonesia's Mount Sundoro goes by several names: Sindara, Sindoro, or Sundoro. It is an active stratovolcano, meaning that it's been built up by many layers of hardened lava, tephra, pumice, and ash. Mount Sundoro is located in Central Java, one of the regions of Indonesia's most populous islands.  The volcano has had mostly mild-to-moderate eruptions in the past. See the volcano for yourself from a bird's eye perspective in this awesome drone video by content creator and pilot Jeremy1975.

Yogyakarta: Prambanan Temple

Prambanan Temple, Indonesia

Contributor Philedrone created this magnificent aerial video of a well known Hindu temple in Indonesia.  The Prambaban Temple is situated in what is now the special region of  Yogyakarta, near the center of the island of Java.  Built in the 9th century, it's the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia and one of the largest in the world.  While Indonesia is predominantly Muslim, it does have a rather substantial Hindu minority which is estimated to number about 4 million, most of whom live on the island of Bali.

Ijen Crater and Mt. Bromo

Active Volcano Ijen Crater and Bromo // Indonesia

Domchoong created an amazing aerial look at two of Indonesia's greatest geological marvels.  Mt. Bromo is the highest volcano in a group of mountains known as the Tengger range of East Java.  It's a very active mountain, and warnings are periodically issued during times of high eruption risk.  Ijen is a well known crater, located to the east of Bromo near the very eastern end of Indonesia's most populous island.  For reasons which will be clear once you see the video, it's known as the Blue Fire Crater.

Ciremai is generally quiet but is still considered an active volcano.  The mountain is a popular climbing/hiking spot; reaching the peak requires about 12 hours, round trip.

Salak: West Java's Silver Mountain

Gunung Salak Volcano, Java, Indonesia - Drone View

Mount Salak (Gung Salak) is one of the more unusual of the many volcanoes on the island of Java, Indonesia.  Due to the pattern of eruption and erosion, the West Java stratovolcano has two craters at its summit plus several "satellite" cones on one of its sides.  It last erupted in the 1930's, and in more recent years it's been studied for a possible geothermal power project.  Contributor sureshnc created this drone video from atop the mountains, which roughly translates to "Silver Mountain".

Over the Bromo Caldera

Bromo Java Indonesia

Since the semi-eruption of late 2015, it's generally not possible to descend into the calera of Mt. Bromo, which isn't the tallest of Indonesia's many volcanoes but probably its most famous.  This drone video by jasonmklean will put you right over the smoking crater.  The great volcano has significant cultural significance on Java and is named after the Hindu God Brahma.  Since the early 2000's, it's had numerous mini-eruptions, including one in 2004 in which two people were killed by a small explosion.

Waterfalls of East Java

A Thousand Waterfalls in East Java (Indonesia) - Tumpak Sewu

With its giant volcanoes and rainforests, it's not surprising that the East Java region of Indonesia is home to some of the world's most amazing waterfalls.  Probably the most famous of these falls is the Tumpak Sewu Waterfalls.  Seen in this outstanding drone video by new AirVuz contributor alfonstaekema, the waterfall is located on the border between the Malang and Lumajang Regencies.  The tiered waterfall is fed by runoff from Mt. Semeru, Java's highest mountain.

Bandung's Pasupati Bridge

Pasupati Bridge Bandung

AirVuz contributor and pilot restukangtahu brings us this excellent 4k drone video of the Indonesia's Pasupati Bridge, one of the modern marvels of this giant Southeast Asian country.  Opened in 2005, the bridge crosses a valley in Bandung, the capital of the province of West Java and one of Indonesia's largest cities.  With a total length of 2.8 km (around 1.7 mi.), the bridge employs a complex design to protect it from the ever-present risk of earthquakes in this geologically active region.

Banteng Mati Beach, East Java

Banteng Mati Beach

While Java is the most populous island in Indonesia (and indeed the world), the vast majority of its 140+ million inhabitants (as of 2019) live in or around its major urban centers.  Much of the island's nearly 140k square km of land area (around 53k square mi.) is quite sparsely populated.  In this drone video by kerehore, you'll get a bird's eye view of a remote beach area in Bentang Mati.  It's located on a virtually unpopulated stretch of coastline along the southern coast of East Java, near the town of Blitar.

Waterfall in East Java's Blitar Regency

Umbul Waru Waterfall

Here's an excellent drone video of a stunning but virtually unknown waterfall on the Indonesian island of Java, compliments of AirVuz contributor Kerehore.  It's called the Umbul Waru Waterfall, and it's situated on the southern coastline of the province of East Java.  Unusually, the waterfall flows directly into the sea, with a drop of about 30 meters (around 100 ft.) into the Indian Ocean.  It's located in Sidomulyo Village in the province's Blitar Regency, on one of the island's most remote stretches of coastline.

Patenggang Lake, West Java

Danau Situ Patenggang

For a second upload to AirVuz, contributor and drone pilot elmandakrisna brings us this beautiful aerial video from a well-known lake on the Indonesian island of Java.  It's called Patenggang Lake, and it's located southwest of the city of Bandung (Indonesia's #4 city as of 2019) in the province of West Java.  Covering a surface area of around 450 square km or around 170 square mi., it's one of the largest lakes on the world's most populous island.  It sits at an altitude of about 1.6k meters above sea level or around 5.2k ft.

Drone Views of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall

TUMPAK SEWU | 4K | Short Travel Video

Top AirVuz contributor and drone pilot brings us this stunning drone video of Indonesia's famous Tumpak Sewu Waterfall.  It's located on the slopes of the volcanic Mt. Semuru, the tallest mountain on the island of Java.  Located on the boundary between two regencies of East Java, the waterfall's name translates roughly to "a thousand waterfalls" in reference to its appearance as multiple falls rather than a single waterfall.  Tumpak Sewu is primarily fed by the Glidik River.
