Mexico City is the capital of Mexico and its largest city.   The metropolitan area is home to over 21 million people as of 2018, making it the largest urban area in the Americas.  The city was built on the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan, which was largely destroyed by Spanish conquerors following a lengthy seige in 1521.  In this drone video, AirVūz contributor @emotiondrones soars through the city's highly modern central business district at night, providing an epic view of its many skyscrapers.

Monterrey, Mexico

Monterrey is the second largest city in Mexico (after capital Mexico City), and its largest city in the northern part of the country.  It lies in the northern state of Nuevo Leon, of which it is the administrative capital.  Like most of the cities in the "inverted triangle" of Central Mexico, it is in a mountain valley, in this case of the Sierra Madre Mountains.  Contributor Droneexperience, one of the top drone piloting companies in Mexico, created this amazing aerial tour of their hometown.

The Mexican state of Yucatan occupies the western part of the Yucatan Peninsula, which it shares with its neighboring state Quintana Roo.  Far from the beaches and resorts of Cancun and the Mayan Riviera, this is rainforest country and it offers an extraordinarily amount of biodiversity.  Contributor Iñigui was in  Sisál, Yucatán when he happened upon a flock of flamingoes.  The drone video he took from this encounter is truly memorable.

A drone in Chichen Itzá

Top contributor iDrone Aerials created this epic aerial view of the great ruins of Chichen Itza, on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.  Chichen Itza is believed by archaeologists to have been one of the largest cities in the Mayan civilization.  It was built beginning in the 7th century.  A UNESCO World Heritage site, the site is one of the most visited ruins sites in the country.  It is located in the state of Yucatán, one of the three states on the peninsula along with Quintana Roo and Campeche.

Chepe Express Train - Exploring Copper Canyon

Like its neighbor the United States, trains played an important part in the development of modern Mexico. Some of the railroads were constructed in the most difficult of environments, with crews having to cope with everything from illness to bandits to avalanches.  Award winning contributor PostandFly created this incredible drone video of the Chepe Express train and its journey through the treacherous Copper Canyon in the Chiahuahua state of north central Mexico.

Over Mazatlan

Legacy video used a drone to create this amazing aerial tour of Mazatlan, one of the beach cities along Mexico's Pacific coastline.  Mazatlan is located in the state of Sinaloa.  It is situated roughly a third of the way down the Pacific coast, approximately level with the tip of Baja California which is readily accessible from Mazatlan by ferry over the Gulf of California.  Legacy used a DJI Phantom 3 drone to create this video of the city.

In this video, Postandfly gives us a bird's eye view of Tijuana, the largest city on Mexico's western coasts.  It's the largest city in the state of Baja California, which extends from the US border to Cabo St. Lucas at the tip of the BC peninsula.  Tijuana is one of the major manufacturing centers of Mexico.  Most of the video's footage is shot around the city's Pacific Ocean beach coastline.  He also gets some good shots of the giant Plaza Monumental arena.

Award winning contributor Postandfly created this stunning drone video descending through the clouds above Acapulco, Mexico.  The city is the oldest and best known of the beach cities along the country's long Pacific and Baja coastlines.  Like most of Mexico's western coastal towns, it's surrounded by hills.  Located in the state of Guerrero, Acapulco is best known for its natural circular bay, which (as you'll see in the video) is frequented by cruise ships.

Top contributor Postandfly created this stunning drone video of the city of Oaxaca, capital of the state of the same name in Southern Mexico.  The state is considered one of Mexico's great cultural treasures because of its indigenous population, in which at least 16 pre-Columbian tribes have survived and with greater continuity than in other parts of the country.  Located in a mountain valley, Oaxaca was the subject of four of the eight essays in DH Lawrence's travel book Mornings in Mexico.

Rock climbing is an activity that really was made for drones.  Until the advent of drones, filming climbers scaling cliffs and large rock formations was almost impossible - literally there was no way to capture much action with a ground camera or even a helicopter.  Now this is no longer a constraint.  In this video, contributor 1LifeStudios used a drone to create this epic video of a rock climber tackling a complex rock formation called the Spires in the Petro Chicao area of Central Mexico.

La Ventanilla

Top contributor shot this amazing drone video of La Ventanilla, a small community in the state of Oaxaxa on Mexico's southern Pacific coast.  The village and surrounding beach area has become a major center for eco-tourism.  In the video you'll see why.  Most of it was shot in a mangrove swamp, only a short distance from the ocean but literally a world apart.  The star is a 4 meter (13 foot) one-eyed crocodile, who apparently takes no offense from the hovering drone.
