Drone Videos of the Highest Mountains

With no roads to speak of in the higher elevation areas, truly experiencing the Himalaya Mountains generally involves a multi-day trek.  In this fantastic video, top contributor jeon.donghee used drone and ground camera footage along on one of the most challenging of these treks: the Three Passes Trek in Nepal.  The 16 day hike covers 160 km (around 100 mi.) and crosses the Renjo La, Cho La and Kongma La mountain passes; as you'll see in the video, the trek affords clear views of Mt. Everest.  

Prepare to be blown away by this spectacular first person view (FPV) drone video from Argentina's mighty El Aconcagua; with an elevation of 7k meters above sea level (23.8k ft.), the great Andes peak is the tallest mountains outside of Asia.  Contributor and pilot NDH Cinema shot the footage working on a documentary program.  Other than the opening and closing shots (which were filmed with a DJI Mavic Pro 2), the footage was captured with a GoPro Hero 8 mounted to an FPV quad.  This video made the FPV Pilots to Watch list in August, 2020.

Contributor scientik brings us this awesome drone video of Pakistan's K2 mountain.  The country's highest mountain and one its most recognized sites, the Himalayan peak is the world's second highest mountain after Mt. Everest.  With summit elevation of about 8.6k meters (just over 28k ft.) above sea level, the part of the mountain actually sits in China's remote Xinjiang region.  It's a famously dangerous mountain to climb; the ratio of deaths to successful climbs is about 1:4, the highest of any major peak.   

Contributor and drone pilot Qualico Drones gives us a marvelous view of a portion of the Andes Mountains in Central Ecuador.  The centerpiece of this is Mt. Chimborazo.  This volcanic mountain stands 6.3k meters (about 20.7k ft.) above sea level, making it the highest mountain in this South American country.  The mountain is part of the Cordillera Occidental range, which is a sub-range of the Andes.  The peak of this monster can be seen from Guayaquil, the capital city which lies 140 km (about 85 miles) away! 

For over a century, mountain climbers around the world have flocked to the great volcanic peak of Mt. Kilmanjaro, Africa's tallest mountain.  Part of a national park in Tanzania, the great mountain rises to a peak elevation nearly 6km (almost 4 miles) above sea level, an altitude which does not require oxygen to scale.  In this video, top contributor Scientik used a DJI Phantom drone to chronicle an epic hike/climb to the top of this mighty peak, famously described by novelist Ernest Hemingway.

Top AirVuz contributor ALFPV put together some of his best alpine drone footage from 2023 and 2024 into this fantastic reel, which was picked as a Finalist for the Drone Video of the Week contest in early March of 2024.  Filmed with a DJI Mini 4 Pro drone, which weighs only about 8 oz. (around 250 g) and is thus perfect for mountain travel, the video will take you over some of the most spectacular peaks in Europe.  Locations include the mountains of northern Norway and the Dolomite Mountains in northeastern Italy.  

Contributor and pilot Nomade World used a drone to capture a memorable hike on Pico de Orizaba (Citlaltépetl), otherwise known as the highest mountain in Mexico.  The dormant (but not extinct) volcano is situated on the Trans-Mexican Volcanic belt that defines so much of the geography of the country.  The mountain's peak stands about 5.6k meters (about 18.5k) ft. above sea level, making it the third highest peak in North America.  Orizaba is the world's second most prominent volcanic peak.  

Former Drone Video of the Week Finalist nikybwd brings us this spectacular drone video of Russia's Mt. Elbrus.  Elbrus is a dormant volcano which lies in the Kabardino-Balkaria republic (province) of Southern Russia, just to the north of the main Caucasus Mountain range.  Its two summits (eastern and western) summits have an elevation of just over 5.6k meters above sea level (18.5k), fully 800 meters (about 2.7k ft.) higher than France's Mont Blanc (the highest mountain of the Alps).  It's the world's tenth-most prominent mountain.  

Of all the magnificent sights of Turkey, one of the best is undoubtedly in its far eastern reaches, in the Ağrı Province.  Here lies the Ishak Pasha Palace, an Ottoman era landmark constructed during the 17th and 18th centuries.  Not only is the palace itself an incredible sight, but it lies in the shadow of Mt. Ararat, Turkey's highest mountain at 5.1k meters (around 16.9k ft.).  You can see this spectacular area of Eastern Anatolia in this amazing drone video by top contributor iskanderfilms.  

Mont Blanc, in the French Alps, is the highest mountain peak of France, as well as the highest in the entire Alps system. Its peak is 4.8k meters (just under 15.8k ft.) above sea level. Chamonix is a small village located in the shadow of the great mountain. It was the site of the first Winter Olympics in 1924, the first of three held in the French Alps. DroneAlps, one of the top French drone piloting companies, found the perfect sunny day to capture this quaint Alpine paradise under a fresh coat of snow.

Contributor and drone pilot Pourya.sharifimavic created this aerial drone video of the highest mountain in Iran.  Mount Damavand is a volcanic peak in the northern part of the country, not far from the shoreline of the Caspian Sea.  The stratovolcano's peak is at an elevation of 5.6k meters (about 18.4k ft.), and its prominence makes it one of the most pronounced mountains in the world.  The mountain is currently inactive; its last known eruption is believed to have occurred in about 5300 BC.  

Contributor Earthspace101 used a drone to give us this beautiful view of Japan's highest mountain.  The mighty Mt. Fuji is a volcanic mountain which stands about 3.8k meters (12.4 ft.) above sea level on Honshu.  The mountain is known not just for its height but for its geometric near-perfection; the shape of its cone is nearly symmetrical.  Of immense cultural significance in Japan, on clear days the peak of the mountain can be seen from 100 km (about 60 mi) away in Tokyo.  It last erupted in 1708.

Florida drone pilot and AirVuz contributor 8Fifty Productions traveled from native Florida to New Zealand and captured some incredible aerial footage of the country.  In this video he takes us through Mt. Cook National Park on the South Island, home of Mt. Cook, the country's tallest peak, with an altitude of almost 3.8k meters (12.3k ft), as well as other amazing sights. It's part of the Southern Alps, an range which runs almost the length of the South Island and is one of the country's top tourist attractions.

In this drone video by contributor and pilot DJphotography, you'll get a beautiful bird's eye views of one of Austria's most spectacular alpine lakes as well as of the highest mountain in Germany.  The Seebensee is located in Austria's mountainous Tyrol province, which covers much of the western part of the country.  It's not far from the town of Ehrwald.  The lake affords excellent views of Mt. Zugspitze over the border in Germany.  This is Germany's highest peak, standing almost 3k meters (about 9.7k ft.) above sea level.

Contributor and pilot Christian Bunda used a drone to create this magnificent video of the highest mountain on the Balkan Peninsula.  Its peak stands 2.9k meters (about 9.6k ft), making it the tallest mountain between the Alps and the Caucasus.  It's located in the southwestern part of Bulgaria, in the Rila National park.  As you'll see in the video, the top of the mountain affords a spectacular peak of Bulgaria's other mountain ranges, which collectively cover much of the Southeast European country.  

Christopher Abbey used a drone to record an epic trip to popular Mt. Whitney in California. It's part of the Sierra Nevada chain of mountains which run down a portion of eastern part of the Golden State.  With a peak elevation of 4.5k meters (around 14.4k ft.), Mt. Whitney is the tallest mountain in the chain, in the state of California, and in the continental United States.  The perfectly shaped peak was first scaled in 1873, following a series of failed attempts.  Its eastern face wasn't conquered until 1931.

Top content creator and pilot Drone Da Montanha created this beautiful captioned drone video compilation of the most beautiful mountains in Brazil. The mountains featured include some of the largest and most known in this South American country, such as Pico Parana, Pico do Cristal, Pico Bandeira, and others.  At about the 1:00 mark, you'll get a look at Pico da Neblina, near the border with Venezuela. With a maximum elevation of just under 3k meters above sea level (around 9.8k ft.) it's the tallest peak in Brazil.  

Contributor Ori Feldman brought a DJI Mavic Pro drone along on an epic trip up to Italy's highest mountain to create this amazing video.  It's shot in the area around Monte Rosa, Italy's highest mountain peak at just over 4.6k meters (about 15.2k ft.), and the second highest peak in the Alps.  The mountain massif covers portions of the Val d'Aosta and Piedmont regions of Italy, with a portion on Swiss soil.  It lies to the east of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc, the latter being the highest peak in the  Alps.

Contributor Alberto Ardit created this beautiful drone video of some of the most spectacular mountains in Italy.  The Dolomites are a subchain of the Alps which extend across portions of the northeastern regions of the country.  The tallest peak of the chain is Marmolada, which straddles the Trentino-Alto-Adigio and Veneto autonomous regions.  It's height is just over 3.3k meters, just under 11k ft. above sea level.  The video covers Marmolada as well as the neighboring Sella and Pordoi Passes.  

Contributor Ezgierol used a DJI Phantom drone to create this stunning aerial video of Turkey's Kaçkar Mountains.  These mountains represent the easternmost arm of the Pontic Mountains chain which run along much of Turkey's northern Black Sea coastline.  The video includes shots of Kaçkar Daği, the highest mountain in the Pontic range, which has an altitude of about 4k meters (just under 13k ft.) above sea level.  Most of the Kaçkar  range lies within Artvin, the easternmost of Turkey's Black Sea coastal provinces.

Fly along with talented AirVuz contributor Jackson Groves on a trek to one of the world's highest mountains.  His journey took him about 110 mi. (around 180 km) to Nepal's Manaslu, part of the great Himalaya chain.  The mountain has a summit elevation of almost 26.8k ft. above sea level (just under 8.2k meters), making it the world's eighth-highest mountain.  The mountain is located in Nepal's Gorkha District, a bit to the east of the somewhat better-known (although no taller) Annapurna Massif.  

AirVuz contributor and pilot nico returns after a two-year hiatus to bring us this excellent video from the mountains of Western China.  The video, which combines drone and ground camera footage, was filmed around Mount Gongga (Minya Konka) in the province of Sichuan.  The mountain is the tallest in the Daxue Mountains, with a peak altitude of 7.5k meters above sea level or around 24.8k ft.   It's the world's third-highest mountain outside of the Himalayan Mountain complex.  This video was a DVOW finalist in December 2020.

AirVuz contributor LucaLuca brings us this excellent drone video from Taiwan's Mt. Jade, which is also known as Yu Shan.  Located near the geographic center of the island, the mountain has a maximum elevation of just under 13k ft. above sea level, or just under 4k m.  That makes it the highest mountain in Eastern Asia outside of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.  The mountain is part of Yu Shan National Park, which is Taiwan's largest national park and also one of its most scenic albeit one of its least accessible.  

Dragonfly flew a drone off of the highest peak in Greece to create this magnificent aerial video of this (literally) legendary region.  The Mytikas peak of the great mountain reaches an altitude of just over 2.9k meters (almost 9.6k ft.) above sea level.  It's part of the Olympus range in the northern part of the country.  Ancient Greeks believed that their gods lived atop the great mountain, and it figured prominently in stories of Greek mythology.  It's also considered important in the Eastern Orthodox religion.  

Alex Assenmacher used a DJI Phantom 3 drone to create this stunning aerial view of Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands. Most of the video was shot around Mt. Teide, the great stratovolcano rising up from the Atlantic floor which created the island.  With a peak elevation of 3.7k meters (12.2k ft.) it's the highest mountain on Spanish territory.  Measured from the floor of the ocean, it's the highest volcano in the world outside of Hawaii.  Its last eruption occurred in 1909.

AirVuz contributor and pilot Amine created this amazing drone video of a trip to Morocco's Mt. Toubkal.  It is situated near the center of the country, in the Atlas Mountains.  With a peak elevation of a bit under 4.2k meters (just under 13.7k ft.), it's the tallest peak in the Atlas range, in the country of Morocco, and indeed in the entire Arab world.  The video also features footage of the nearby Lake Ifni.  This area is less than an hour's drive from the provincial capital of Marrakesh.

Check out this spectacular drone video from some of the highest mountains in Africa, compliments of contributor Global Air Media.  The Simien Mountains form part of the highlands of northern Ethiopia.  They were formed by a highly unusual geological process shared by only one other mountain range (the Drakensberg in South Africa).  The highest of the Simiens is Ras Deshen; with a peak elevation of 4.6k meters (about 14.5k ft.), it's Ethiopia's highest and one of the tallest on the continent.  

Check out this drone video of a massive mountain in Western China, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot Frankie_xia.  Mt. Siguniang is part of the Qionglai Mountains, a chain which runs in a generally north-south direction through the southwestern province of Sichuan.  The tallest of a massif called the "Four Sisters", Siguniang has a summit elevation of about 6.25k meters above sea level or around 20.5k ft.  The easternmost Asian peak above 6k meters/20k ft., it was not successfully ascended until 1981.  

The Julian Alps is a mountain range which extends from northern Italy westwards into Slovenia.  A sub-range of the larger Alps system, their  highest peak is Mt. Triglav, which stands 2.9k meters (9.4k ft) and lies in Slovenia's Triglav National Park.  In this video, contributor Jus Medic and a friend took a drone and hiked to the top of Dolkova Spica, a slightly smaller mountain in Slovenia, capturing Mt. Triglav in the distance.   The epic aerial views of the Slovenian mountains are spectacular.  

Petr Juračka's video "To the Mystery" was nominated for a Drone Video of the Year Award in 2017. His video "K2 with a drone" is one of the most viewed videos on AirVūz. Needless to say, Petr - aka Scientik - is a pretty talented drone pilot and cinematographer.
