Mont St. Michel is an island off the coast of northwestern France. It is situated near the mouth of the Couesnon River, which forms the border between Normandy and Brittany. The monastery which dominates the island, built in the 8th century, is one of the most widely recognized historical sites in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Contributor Freeway Prod, one of France's the top drone piloting firms, treats us to an aerial tour of this magnificent place, which was featured in the famous Bayeaux Tapestry.

The Eiffel Tower in Paris is one of the world's most recognizable landmarks.  The great lattice tower built as the entrance for the 1889 World's Fair stands 324 meters above the Champ de Mars, and is the most-visited monument in the world.  Who better to film France's most iconic site by drone than one of France's top drone piloting companies and AirVuz contributor Freeway Prod?  Using a DJI Inspire drone, they captured this spectacular aerial footage in the course of a project they did for French TV.

Here's a stunning aerial tour of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, created by top AirVuz contributor Freeway Prod.  The footage was captured shortly before the landmark was badly damaged in a fire which broke out on April 15, 2019.  The fire, which occurred while the church was undergoing renovation, destroyed its main spire.  Considered one of the world's 2-3 most famous churches and immortalized in Victor Hugo's 1831 classic the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Notre-Dame de Paris (as it's formally called) is currently being restored.

It was constructed in the 16th century as a hunting lodge for the French King Francis I, although it was never completed. DRone used a DJI Mavic Air drone to create this magnificent video of Southern France.  The country's long Mediterranean coastline includes some of the most desirable spots in Europe, some of which you'll see hear from a bird's eye perspective.  The video features footage of the Côte d'Azur (the French Riviera, or eastern stretch of the coast), a number of spots in inland Provence, as well as some epic bird's eye views of Porquerolles (an island off the Riviera).  It was filmed in July, 2018.

The Basque people of southwestern Europe have a highly distinct culture, which evolved in partial isolation due to the mountains which run along the head of the Bay of Biscay.  While the heart of the region is in northern Spain, a portion reaches into southwestern France.  Cabaye created this beautiful aerial video of the French portion of Basque Country, which begins a bit south of Bordeaux and runs to the Spanish border.  The video includes footage of Hendaye, Artzamendi, Rhune, and Biarritz.

Top contributor and pilot Dronetrip has graced AirVuz with a stunning bird's eye look Verdon Gorge in southeastern France.  The canyon runs up to 700 meters deep (about 2.4k ft) for a length of about 25 km (40 mi) in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.  Formed by a Durance River tributary, it's considered one of the most stunning canyons in Europe if not the world.  In this video, Dronetrip's DJI Mavic Pro drone beautifully captures this amazing natural marvel which is sometimes called the Grand Canyon of Europe.

Oberschneider used a DJI Phantom 4 drone to create this stunning aerial tour of Corsica, the great French island in the Mediterranean.  The island reflects a blend of Italian and French cultures, which is a function of its history: the island was a territory of Genoa for almost five hundred years beginning in the late 13th century.  In the video, you'll get a good overview of the island, including some of its towns, its famously rocky coastline, and its beautiful mountainous interior.

Top contributor Amaury Descours flew a drone over a cape of Brittany in northwestern France to create this amazing video.  Cape Frehel is a promontory that lies on the northern side of the Breton Peninsula, in the Côtes-d'Armor department.   This is a remote slice of Brittany; the peninsula itself is uninhabited but for two adjacent lighthouses, both of which can be seen in the video.  The shorter lighthouse was built in the 17th century while the taller one dates to the mid-20th century.

In this video, contributor Lyon Drone Services gives us a fantastic aerial look at the French city of Lyon.  While the city proper is the third largest in the country, counting the metropolitan population it's effectively the country's second city after Paris. A very old city, Lyon is the capital of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, which covers much of east-central France.  Built on the site of an ancient Roman refugee settlement, the city is home to many of France's high tech companies.

Top contributor BeemFlights created this magnificent drone video of Paris, the great French capital.  The video alternates between the two most iconic sites in the City of Light: the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame de Paris, otherwise known as Notre Dame Cathedral.  The latter, which is one of the world's most well known churches, caught fire on April 15, 2019 and was badly damaged.  Located on the Île de la Cité in the River Seine, the 13th century Gothic landmark is one of France's greatest cultural treasures.

Sphereview created this magnificent bird's eye view of the Arc de Triomphe in central Paris, one of the most iconic sites of Europe.  It anchors the western end of the Champs-Élysées, the French capital's most important roadway.  It was built as a memorial to France's war dead in the Napoleonic Wars, and its Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is the country's greatest memorial for its World War I dead.  The Arc was used as the filming location for a key scene in the 2018 film Mission Impossible: Fallout.

In connection with a French TV show, top contributor Freeway Prod created this magnificent drone video of the famous French castle Château de Villandry and its gardens.  The chateau is one of the more well known landmarks in the Loire River Valley of central France, home to many of the world's top Renaissance castles.  It was built in the early 1500's on the ruins of an older structure.  The chateau is located just outside the Loire-Anjou-Touraine regional park in the Indre-et-Loire department.

In this video, Drone-pictures gives us a beautiful bird's eye view of the magnificent Chateau Chenenceau.  Situated in the heart of the Loire River Valley of west-central France, Chenenceau is considered one of the world's greatest Rennaissance castles.  The current structure dates to the 15th century.  It took much of its current shape in the 16th century, after the French King Henry II gave it to his mistress, the formidable Diane de Poitiers.  It is has had a protected landmark status since the mid-1800's.

This fantastic drone video by Lewieque begins with a flyover of the great Mont-St. Michel monastery-fortress on a tidal island in Normandy, but the star of this particular show is a bit further south - the walled city of St. Malo, the former "pirates' den" which sits at the mouth of the La Rance River in northern Brittany.  The video also features some great views of the late 17th century National Fortress which sits on a tidal island just offshore from St. Malo, as well as the nearby town of Cancale.

AVEA - Alta Epic Aerials created this stunning drone video of a site which played a key part in one of France's greatest mysteries.  Étretat is a small community on Normandy's Atlantic Coast.  In May, 1927, a plane called the White Bird took off from Étretat bound for New York.   The plane, piloted by two famous French World War I aces, disappeared without a trace and has never been found.  They had been seeking the Orteig prize, which was awarded to the USA's Charles Lindbergh weeks later.

Auvergne is an area of Central France.  Historically an official region, a few years ago it was consolidated with the region to its east to form the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.  With few large cities, Auvergne is one of the most under-populated areas of the country.  While the region has a storied history dating to the Antiquity, what it is perhaps best known for now is its dormant volcanoes.  Contributor and drone pilot My Way gives us an aerial tour of this region in the heart of France.

Mont Blanc, in the French Alps, is the highest mountain peak of France, as well as the highest in the entire Alps system. Its peak is 4.8k meters (just under 15.8k ft.) above sea level. Chamonix is a small village located in the shadow of the great mountain. It was the site of the first Winter Olympics in 1924, the first of three held in the French Alps. Top contributor Freeway Prod used a DJI Inspire 2 drone to create this stunning aerial video of the Citadel de Sisteron, a very well known fortification in the foothills of the French Alps.  The town of Sisteron is located in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, which is just to the south of the Hautes-Alpes department in the heart of the French Alps.  The citadel was built to take advantage of Sisteron's strategic location in the middle of a gap between two mountain ridges, once known as the Gateway to Provence.

Aguile du Midi: Epic 360 Drone Flight

The Aguile du Midi is probably France's best known mountain, after its neighbor Mt. Blanc.  Unlike Mt. Blanc though, the Aguile du Midi peak is served by a cable car, the world's highest.  The cablecar's top station has become one of the most iconic sites of the Alps.  At an altitude of 3.8k meters above sea level (about 12.6k ft.), its panoramic views are matchless.  That is, until you could circle the peak itself, via a drone.  That's what dronealps did in this amazing 360 aerial of the great peak.

Top contributor Zimy da Kid took a drone along on a hike into the French Prealps.  These are essentially "mini Alps" which lie to the west of the "real" French and Swiss Alps.  It's actually a series of ranges, including the Chartreuse and Vercor Mountains.  With modest elevations, they are generally accessible without climbing equipment.  In this video, you'll get a bird's eye view of this epic hiking trip as they walk to the top of Grand Veymont, which at 2.3k meters (7.7k ft) is the highest peak in this range.
