Flying Over Romania


Romania's landscape is dominated by the Carpathian Mountains, which serve as the borderlands between its core regions.  The various sub-ranges are spectacular to behold and include some of the world's most breathtaking rock formations and valleys.  Contributor Webmosphere treats us to an incredible aerial tour of the Romanian mountains, which includes footage of the spectacular Transfăgărășan road, which connects the region of Wallachia with Transylvania to its north.

Montenegro: Land of Beauty


Drone Video of the Week winner HikeTheWorld spent a month in the Balkan country of Montenegro with a drone.  He was able to capture aerial footage of the country's most scenic spots, including Lake Piva, Durmitor National Park, Tara River Canyon, Prokletije National Park, Lake Skadar, Rijeka Crnojevica, Budva, and the Bay of Kotor.  Watching it, you will see why this country, which was part of Serbia until 2006, has become a top tourist destination in southeastern Europe.

Beautiful Croatia


For a two minute+ tour of some of the most beautiful spots in Croatia, it's hard to beat this video by contributor Hausmannvisuals.  Using a drone, he gives us some epic aerial shots of Split, Dubrovnik, Pelješac, Sreser, Ston, and other spots in this beautiful country.  As you take in the beauty of the Adriatic waters, the mountain fortresses, and the medieval towns, you will appreciate why Croatia has been a favored shooting location for HBO's blockbuster Game of Thrones series.

Bosnia and Herzegovina 2018 - DJI Mavic Air 4K


For an overview tour of Bosnia Herzegovina, it's hard to beat this aerial compilation by Mywaytotravel.  Shot with a DJI Mavic Pro drone, the video takes us over most of the well known sights of this ancient Balkan land, which was once part of the Yugoslav Federation.  Covering both the natural beauty of the country as well as its historical and cultural treasures, you'll see some great bird's eye views of Mostar, Sarajevo, Kravice waterfalls, Pocitelj, Konjic, and Buna.

4K Drone Albania


Contributor Miracleoffight treats us to this aerial tour of the small Balkan nation Albania.  This small, mountainous country manages to pack in some incredible natural and cultural scenery, an astoundingly diverse landscape given its size.  The video features bird's eye views of the capital city Tirana, the mountains which extend throughout the interior, and the dazzling blue waters of its Adriatic coastline.  Unlike most of the other countries in the region, Albania was never part of Yugoslavia.

Top contributor Minglam put together this awesome aerial tour of the the two most well known areas of the Balkan nation of Macedonia.  The first part of the video is shot around Lake Ohrid, the large lake which forms part of the border with Albania to the west.  The lake is not only spectacularly beautiful but it's dotted with many sites of cultural interest, also shown in the video.  The film then transitions to Skopje, Macedonia's capital city, which lies in a valley in the northern part of the country.

Serbia: Where Are You Now?


Contributor Escapeaway created this beautiful drone video following a trip to Serbia, a country which regained its independence following the dissolution of Yugoslavia in the 1990's.  The video shows the astounding natural scenery of this country on the Balkan Peninsula in Southeastern Europe.  Most of the video was shot in the southern, more mountainous part of the country, along the Uvac River.  The highlight is some spectacular bird's eye views of the Uvac Gorge.

Epic Bulgaria 2 - Submerged Church "St. Ivan Rilski" in 4K

Two types of landmarks which distinguish Bulgaria are churches and dams.  Contributor Blagoy Mamchilov used his DJI drone to create this spectacular video of a site with both.  The St. Ivan Rilski church is located in the town of Zapalnya in central Bulgaria, in an area that was flooded to make way for the Jrebchevo hydroelectric project in the 1960's.  Now sitting in the dam's reservoir, the partially submerged church is one of the country's most well known sites.

Bosnia Herzegovina is perhaps the most distinctive of the countries which emerged after Yugoslavia tragically collapsed into a long and bloody civil war in the 1990's.  In this video, top AirVuz contributor Hamza Mujtaba takes us on an aerial tour of this magnificent land, Europe's only Muslim-majority country.  Using his DJI Mavic Pro drone, he gives us bird's eye views of the country, including spectacular shots of the bridge in the medieval city Mostar.

This video is a Finalist in the Game of Drones category for the second annual Drone Video Awards.

Split & Zadar | Croatia | 4K Drone Video


Zadar and Split both lie on the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, on the Adriatic Sea.  Both feature stunning beaches, Roman and Venetian ruins, and architecture spanning centuries.  The allure of Split led to it being chosen as the site of the fictional Diocletian's Palace in the HBO series Game of Thrones.  Top contributor Hamza Mujtaba was nominated for the 2017 AirVuz Drone Video Awards in the Cities category for this amazing aerial video featuring these two beautiful cities.

Freeride Ski at National Park Galicica - Ohrid Macedonia by 2S & Ski Macedonia


While it is not as prominent as other alpine areas, the mountains of Macedonia in Europe's Balkan region offer spectacular skiing opportunities.  Most of the country is covered in steep hills and mountains, with the greatest concentrations in its northwestern and southern regions.  Stojan2s created this epic drone video from a ski trip to the Galicica National Park ski area, situated in the soutwestern corner of the country near Ohrid.

Sofia, Bulgaria's Capital City


Bulgaria's capital city Sofia sits near the western end of this Southeast European country.  Dating to the Roman era, the city's importance derives from its location relative to three mountain passes critical to ancient trade routes running to and from the Black Sea, at one point the world's most important body of water.  Using a DJI Phantom 4 Professional drone, AirVuz contributor Gkoutanoudisg gives us tour of this  well preserved in the foothills of the Balkan Mountains.

About Tirana - DronAlb


Contributor DronAlb created this marvelous aerial overview of Tirana, the capital city of Albania.  The city lies a bit west of the geographic center of the country, still some distance from the Adriatic coastline.  Like much of the country, it is surrounded by mountains and hills.  Founded in the early 17th century, Tirana has seen its tourism grow since the civil war in the former Yugoslavia (immediately to Albania's north) subsided.   The city is home to about 600,000 Albanians.

Adrenaline Rush - Buzludzha Winter Edition


One of Bulgaria's most iconic sites is the Buzludzha  monument, which sits atop the Buzludzha peak situated near the geographic center of this Balkan nation.  In this video, contributor Droneman used a drone to create an impressive aerial view of this important structure, built to celebrate the Bulgarian Communist Party. Funded with public contributions, the monument was constructed over a ten year period from 1971 to 1981.  It's part of the Stara Zagora province.

Croatia's Korcula and Mljet Islands are two of the larger islands which lie off the country's long Dalmation Coast in the Adriatic Sea.  Korcula is the larger of the two, and is the largest island in the country after the northern island of Krk.  Contributor Amaury Descours used a DJI Phantom 3 Pro drone to aerially capture these two islands, which have played an important role in the affairs of the region for thousands of years and are now among the world's most popular sailing locations.

Lake Ohrid Coastline

Uncle Damn

Lake Ohrid is one of the most spectacular bits of natural scenery in the Balkans.  One of the largest lakes in the region, it forms part of the border between Macedonia and Albania.  It is one of a handful of UNESCO World Heritage sites to be designated as both a natural and cultural site.  In this video, top contributor Uncle Damn gives us a bird's eye view of the area around the city of Ohrid on the lake's northeastern shore, one of the most popular destinations on this deep, crystal blue lake.

Dubrovnik in Cinematic High Definition


Contributor Justin Poore created this stunning aerial tour of Dubrovnik, the ancient Croatian city located at the southernmost tip of the country on the Dalmatian Coast.  This city, with its spectacular views overlooking the Adriatic Sea, is a UNESCO World Heritage site.  Famously, it is a major filming location for HBO's Game of Thrones series, serving as the King's Landing location among other "roles".  Dubrovnik is now one of the top destinations anywhere in the Mediterranean.

Zemun Serbia

First Production

In this video, First Production gives us a drone's eye view of Zemun, Serbia.  Once a truly independent city, it has more or less been absorbed into the greater Belgrade area with the growth of the (nearby) Serbian capital city.   Like much of Serbia, the area around Zemun has been inhabited by humans for over two milennia.  It lies on the Danube River, just upstream from Belgrade and a rather further distance downstream from Novi Sad, Serbia's #2 urban center.

Albania is blessed with a plethora of beautiful beaches along its Adriatic Sea coastline.  With few major cities, the Albanian coast is home to a few towns and numerous small villages and resorts.  In this drone video by Tigger_81, you'll get an aerial glimpse of this coastline.  The video features dazzling footage of Saranda, Blue Eye, Butrim, and Ksamil, all of which lie on the southern end of the Balkan nation's coastline in the area known as the Albanian Riviera.

First Production

First Production created this beautiful drone video of the Serbian capital city Belgrade, decked out for the Christmas holiday season.  The video was shot on a DJI Inspire drone with a Zenmuse X5 camera.  Belgrade is the largest city in Serbia by good measure, and is the last (ie downtream) of the great cities on the Danube River, which runs through Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest before it reaches the Serbian capital city en route to the Black Sea.
