Dubai Evolution, From Desert to Skyscapers


Viewing the skyline of Dubai, one can't help but wonder how this major metropolis was carved out of the desert.  Contributor Bachir_Photo_Phactory uses a drone to show us visually the transition from the dry and desolate desert surrounding the city to the urban oasis that is Dubai.  The video includes astounding bird's eye views of Dubai’s most prominent skyscrapers, including the Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower in the world.



Fabio Knoll

Wadi Rum is a desert valley lying in the southern portion of Jordan.  Occupied since ancient times, the area is home to some of the most spectacular rock formations anywhere on earth.  For this reason, it was chosen as the primary shooting location for the legendary 1962 Columbia Pictures film Lawrence of Arabia.  Award winning contributor Fabio Knoll flew his drone over the Wadi Rum, and the aerial view is nothing short of astounding.

Brazilian digital producer and travel photographer, Fabio Knoll, who was nominated for the AirVuz Drone Video Awards in 2017, captured some remarkable aerial views of this nation - including epic views of Cappadocia and the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, better known as the Blue Mosque.


A journey through The Holy Land

Moreeb Dunes-The Sands of Time


The Moreeb Dunes in the United Arab Emirates contain some of the highest sand dunes in the world.  The highest such dune stands 300 meters (1k ft) above the desert floor, with a slope of nearly 50 degrees.  Top contributor Paul Vlad used the dunes as backdrop for this stunning drone video, featuring aerial footage of a car driving through the endless desert as well as a model standing atop one of the dunes.  


Israel , Masada


Masada is an ancient fortification built atop a plateau in the Judean Desert of southern Israel, overlooking the Dead Sea.  During the First Jewish War of the first century BC, Masada was the site of a famous seige by Roman troops following which the Jewish defenders committed mass suicide.  Contributor Nelly Volkovich used a drone to create an amazing aerial video of this hallowed mountaintop, which is a UNESCO World Heritage cultural site.  


Rise Above Lebanon


Lebanon is a land of stunning Mediterranean coastline, mountains, and verdant valleys.  Contributor Riseaboveearth works with travel companies and tourism bureaus to create travel content.  To make this video of Lebanon (commissioned by the Lebanese Ministry of Tourism), they spent five months filming Lebanon from above using a drone, capturing the stunning diversity of this incredible Middle Eastern country.

Jerash is an ancient city in northwestern Jordan, near the country's border with neighboring Israel.  Like some cities in Israel and Lebanon, Jerash reflects a blend of historical Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultures.  Award winning contributor Fabio Knoll used a drone to create an amazing aerial tour of this city, which was unearthed by archaeologists in the early 1800's.  



Kelly's Heroes

Mosul is a war torn area of Iraq on the west bank of the Tigris River. A city nearly in ruins, professional award-winning drone cinematographers Kelly’s Heroes traveled to document the region for a Belgian television series. Unfortunately, war is not new to this area: the eastern side of Mosul was once the great Assyrian capital city of Nineveh, at one point the largest city in the world.  Its sacking in 612 BC killed untold thousands and was one of the most consequential events of ancient history.  


Secrets of the Judaean Desert


The Judean Desert runs parallel to the Dead Sea in the eastern part of Israel.  It is an area steeped in history, with frequent references in the Bible and the Koran.  In this video, contributor Rea Burla treats us to spectacular tour of this amazing desert, which includes bird's eye views of St. George’s Monastery in the Wadi Qelt valley, the tomb of Moses, the UNESCO World Heritage site Masada, and the Dead Sea.

Qasar Al Sahab is an exclusive, five star resort in the Middle Eastern nation of the United Arab Emirates. Top contributor Fabio Knoll created a stunning drone video of the recenly built resort, which sits at the edge of the so-called Empty Quarter, the largest uninterrupted area of desert in the entire world.  The bird's eye views of the endless Arabian sands are simply amazing.


Beautiful Abu Dhabi 4K Drone Footage


The United Arab Emirates is comprised of seven semi-independent emirates, the largest and best known of which is Dubai.  The second largest is Abu Dhabi, which sits to the west of Dubai on the Persian Gulf.  Contributor Humzz used a drone to create this stunning aerial tour of the UAE's "second city", which has experienced less explosive growth compared to Dubai yet which still boasts an impressive skyline of its own.  


Lebanon - Highlands

Award winning contributor Fabio Knoll created this amazing aerial tour of the highlands of Lebanon.  Though a small country, Lebanon has an enormously varied landscape, with two parallel mountain ranges running down much of its north-south extent.  The highest mountains are in the northern parts of the Mt. Lebanon range.  The peaks here top out at around 3k meters (10k ft.).  This area is also home to Lebanon's six ski resorts, some of whose slopes are featured in the video.




Contributor and drone pilot Rezerafizadeh created this stunning aerial view of the Masal province in Iran.  It's located in the northwest part of the country, very close to the Caspian Sea and not far from the border with Azerbaijan.  Unlike most of the country, the region is heavily forested.  Prepare to be amazed by the views through the clouds of the stunning rolling hills of the area, called by some the "Green Roof of Iran".  


A Castle Among Clouds and Mist


Zilkale Castle lies in Turkey's Rize province in the northeastern part of the country, in its Black Sea region.  The medieval castle, which has a storied history involving multiple kingdoms, sits on a giant cliff overlooking a small river.  It's a prime tourist attraction in this part of Turkey.  Contributor Skaty was able to fly his drone over this magnificent 15th century structure on a day when it was enshrouded in mist. As you'll see from the video, the results are simply spectacular.  


Lebanon Adventure


Top contributor Bachir_Photo_Phactory used a drone to show the breadth of outdoor activities available in the small Middle Eastern country of Lebanon.  Ride along to get a bird's eye view of what is available to adventure seekers in this land, once known as the Switzerland of the East.  The video will give you bird's eye views of surfing in the Mediterranean, mountain biking in the country's extensive hills and mountains, rock climbing, waterskiing, and even paragliding over Beirut!

The Tel Aviv-Jaffo urban area on Israel's Mediterranean shore is a study in contrasts.  Jaffo is an ancient port city with multiple references in the Bible.  Tel Aviv is a modern city, founded in 1909 by members of the Zionist Movement.    Contributor Ruslan Paul used a DJI Inspire 2 drone to create an amazing aerial tour of the area, and the contrast between its two cities is even more striking from an aerial perspective.
