2023 Drone Videos of the Week: Episode 7

Former Drone Video of the Week Winnr Migo-Studios brings us this outstanding drone video of a stunning scene in the mountains of Portugal.  The video was filmed over and around the village of Monsanto in the Castelo Branco District, which is part of the Central (Centro) region of the country.  The town and its namesake 12th century castle (featured prominently in the video) were filming locations for the HBO TV series House of the Dragon, the prequel to the phenomenally successful Game of Thrones series. 

Explore the magic of New York City from above in this excellent video by former Drone Video of the Week Finalist brendanbeale.  The video was filmed at night over the Midtown area of Manhattan.  At about the :30 mark, there's a nice shot looking north towards the skyscrapers around Times Square, which is located around Broadqay and 42nd St. and is the city's largest entertainment district.  Starting at about the 1:00 mark, there's a great "reveal" shot of the Empire State Building at Fifth Avenue and 33rd Street.  

Explore the historic Old Town of Dresden, Germany in this excellent drone video by contributor Michael Haubold.  The video opens with a shot looking southeast over the Elbe River towards the Dresden Cathedral, which was built in the mid-18th century.  Starting at the :35 mark, you'll see the Frauenkirche, the city's main Lutheran church, followed by the statue of King Johann of Saxony.   The video concludes with the Golden Rider, which is located in the Neustadter Markt square and commemorates the Saxon Elector Augustus II the Strong.   

Top contributor ugurevin recorded this heartbreaking aerial footage from Turkey in the wake of a pair of powerful earthquakes which caused devastation across the southeastern part of the country as well as in neighboring Syria.  The quakes, which hit within nine hours of each other on February 6, 2023, killed at least 44,000 people as of February 16, a figure which was expected to continue to rise.  The main quake, which struck near the Turkish city of Gaziantep, was one of the stongest ever recorded in the Middle East.  

AirVuz contributor Feeling Drone - Guillermo Garcia used a DJI Mini 2 drone to create this memorable video record of a two week trip to France.  At about the :12 mark, you'll get a first glimpse of the monastery fortress of Mont-Saint-Michel, a tidal island off the coast of the Normandy region in the northwestern part of the country.  Another highlight is at the 1:17 mark, with a great aerial view of Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, a medieval castle in the Vosges Mountains in the northeastern region of Alsace.
