Our Drone Video of the Week, based on YOUR votes is... Matt Bush - World of Free Solo Climbing by LukeMaximoBell!
Drone pilot and video producer, Luke Bell, says the video was filmed in Cape Town, South Africa at the infamous Paarl Rock, the granite outcrop that is part of the larger Paarl Mountain. The star of the film, Matt Bush, is one of the world’s best Free Solo Climbers, meaning he climbs without ropes. Luke says, 'Watching these videos makes it look like Matt just sees a climb and then does it. That is not the case. He practices a route many times with ropes before he is confident enough to do it without any ropes. He’s also very careful with when and how he climbs and is extremely skilled: 'The climbs in the video are very difficult and take an extremely advanced climber to do even with ropes.' Luke picked up flying when he was in school. He says he would buy broken drones, fix them, then resell to make a little money. However, he started flying them and fell in love. He mainly uses a DJI Phantom 4 Pro, but also has DJI's Mavic and Spark. Luke’s work has been featured on YourVūz, Drone Video of the Week from April 16th - April 23rd, in our Rock Climbing Drone Videos collection, our South Africa Drone Videos, collection and our Aerial Whales collection. You can get to know more about Luke on THIS episode of The Drone Dish.
Congratulations again to Luke Bell for winning drone video of the week!
