The Philippines was hit by the Covid-19 epidemic relatively late, with fewer than 100 confirmed cases until March 14, 2020. From that point, the case count rapidly escalated to over 2,000 by the end of the month, with about 70% of those cases in Metropolitan Manila; the entire island of Luzon was placed under "enhanced community quarantine" on March 16. In this drone video you'll see what this looks like in Agdangan, a municipality in the province of Quezon, southeast of Manila. The quarantine was originally set to last until April 12, 2020, but President Duterte accepted the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to extend the Luzon ECQ up until April 30, 2020. On April 24, the ECQ got another extension as Duterte announced that it is extended up to May 15, 2020 but only for Metro Manila, Central Luzon and CALABARZON as well as other areas in Luzon that are considered a high-risk for COVID-19. Low-risk to moderate-risk areas will be placed under general community quarantine (or less stricter quarantine) starting on May 1.
