AKK are a new brand on the block offering an array of FPV equipment and asked me if I was interested in trying some of their equipment. I own a bunch of 5" prop quads but no swifts or owls or HS1177's or other premium cameras at all and the otherwise awesome Wizard has one of the worst of the lot with absolutely terrible light handling. Colours very muddy and the super narrow lens tops off the less than satisfactory FPV experience with a quad that otherwise flies superb. I thought I was being forward thinking putting Steels's HS1177 settings on here but that just ended up looking way too red although at night in low light was actually quite good colour wise. Light handling and contrast stability was excellent though and this alone was really nice to see on the Wizard I have generally only being flying LoS after the initial review with lots of FPV After this I reset the camera to default and was presented with a much more realistic experience colour wise and even without the 'DWDR' function enabled it was perfectly usable. Enabling this brightens up the picture some more and seem to keep the contrast solid even when pointing at the ground or the sun through multiple consecutive flips. In this regard it's probably in the top 10% of the cameras I have flown and top of the class in regards to my fleet. The colour is a bit tame and washed out at default settings so this could certainly do with pumping up a touch but it is stable which is more important in my experience plus I haven't even started experimenting with the colour settings as yet which along with a filter for the nasty diagonal lines from the BEC is top of the list. The VTX is 600mw so as expected I had zero issue flying LoS ranges and the antenna seems as good as my others that look like this but only some real world FPV will show how good range actually is. I think the Wizard is due a session with some airgates. Big thanks to AKK for sending this equipment for testing. They will have a UK site, shop and also Ebay shop real soon but until then you can see and order form their Amazon shop. My first impressions are great considering the camera's cost. I cannot see it available without the VTX so will ask about this. This is the VTX and cam I used and sells for $40 inc postage. WIres are correct unlike initial reviews on there.
