The Super-paramo is an ecosystem present between 4200 MASL and the snow limit (4500 MASL.) in the southern latitudes of Ecuador. It is characterized by a dispersed and dissociated vegetation (in many cases endemic species), that are well adapted to strong winds and low temperature. The soil is poor in nutrients and appears uncovered, showing layers of fragmented rocks, which have their origin in the processes of Frost weathering. This type of ecosystem is located in the northwestern areas of the Cajas Plateau, where Arquitectos Peak is the highest summit (4445 m.sm) within the limits of Cajas National Park. Quilico brings us a video where you can appreciate shots of this interesting and inhospitable ecosystem.
