The world’s largest consumer drone manufacturer is in the news again – and, once again, not in a way they’d hope for. The latest Chinese tech company falling victim to vendor corruption is none other than DJI. According to Reuters, an internal memo began circulating on Chinese social media platforms late last week saying that the corruption was found during an overhaul of management procedures. They discovered employees in several parts of the supply chain were part an embezzlement scheme that caused prices on parts to rise around 20% on average. DJI estimates the scam costs them around 147 million US dollars. In a statement, the privately held company says they took “swift action to address the issue, dismissed a number of employees who violated company policies, and contacted law enforcement officials.” Although an official number has not been released, several news outlets are reporting just under 50 employees have been fired or were involved in some way.
