Description: As you’ve heard, GoPro has recalled it’s Karma drone, due to battery failure. Some owners reported that the drone would lose power during flight, causing it to fall and crash land. We caught up with one early buyer, who thinks he was among the first to see his Karma drop from the sky.
Brian Warholak has been a proud owner of GoPro cameras and accessories for many years. When he heard about GoPro’s plan to release a consumer-friendly drone, he knew he wanted to be one of the first to try it out.
“I was stoked for it...you know I already had a few GoPro cameras and accessories as it is so that’s why I went with this one”
It was Brian’s first drone, but unfortunately, it wouldn’t last long. During his second time flying the Karma, he noticed something strange...
“Then it got totally quiet. And I was like ‘really, I took it up that far?’ And that’s when I looked and I saw it coming down. And at that point there’s nothing you can do except sit there at let it happen. I was like ‘Wow, there’s $1000 that just fell out of the sky”
All of this happened before GoPro issued their recall. Brian was planning on exchanging his Karma for a new one
“I was actually in the BestBuy parking lot contemplating if I was going to take it in...and then I got a message on the (GoPro) forum saying “Hey there’s actually been an official re-call issued”
Brian, along with other Karma buyers, received a full refund from GoPro for returning their drones.
We talked to a representative at GoPro about the Karma’s future...they told us that they are still are waiting for Karmas to be sent back to complete further testing. After that, they’ll have a better idea as to when it will be re-released. For now, there’s no timeline.
GoPro is also offering a free Hero 5 camera to anyone who bought the now recalled Karma.
Thinking of buying a drone for the holiday season? You might not want to get your hopes up for the Karma, but we’ve put together a list of other drones going on sale for Black Friday.
