Abandoned Nipak Fertilizer Plant Drone Footage, Trinidad, TX

I noticed this large abandoned factory while driving on Hwy 31 just west of Trinidad, TX. I did a little research and found out the plant was constructed in 1965 by the Nipak, Inc. corporation and mainly manufactured ammonia products and fertilizer. The plant cost $25,000,000 to build (about $200,000,000 in today’s terms). The plant unfortunately closed down in 1978 after only 13 years of doing business. I couldn’t find anything on why the plant had abruptly closed down. I read that the local town paid to have a large fence built around it to keep people out for safety reasons.
