AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Top contributor and pilot Daniele Bolgia used a drone to chronicle the extensive damage which the Vaia storm inflicted on northern Italy in October, 2018. The storm downed thousands upon thousands of trees in the mountainous areas spread across several regions in the northeastern part of the country. The area shown here is in the Trentino province, which is part of the Trentino-Alto-Adigio region and which took the brunt of the monster storm. The firece storm was one of the worst to hit Italy in many decades.
Description: On October 29 2018 the “Vaia” storm hit some regions in northern Italy with the wind blowing at almost 200 km/h (124 mph). It took one hour for the wind to knock down approximately 14 million trees (about eight million cubic meters of wood) and change the territory in a way never seen before. These damaged woods have been the location of the concert “Lagorai d’inCanto”; organized to let people see the damaged areas and to start over reconstructing the territory, one tree at the time. . . .
