AirVūz News: World of Drones 08/10/20

Published 08/10/2020 08:35

Welcome to the “World of Drones,” your weekly news source on all things drone related.

We’re seeing more and more powerful aerial videos and images from the devastating explosion in Beirut last week. Drone videos show the extent of the damage in Lebanon's capital. AirVuz contributor Michel G. Khoury gave us a first-person view of the scene, actually taking his quad inside some of the destroyed buildings. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this tragedy, including Michel who lost his Grandmother.

On a local level a Major League Baseball game experienced a 'drone delay' last week after someone flew a DJI Mavic drone over the stadium. The Minnesota Twins and Pittsburgh Pirates game at Target Field in Minneapolis was delayed around 10 minutes as the players left the field and the drone hovered over the stands. The FAA issues TFR’s or temporary flight restrictions around stadiums during sporting events, normally because of the thousands of fans in attendance, but obviously no fans were at this game due to the pandemic, but the flight restriction was still issued. The drone eventually flew off and no one was injured. Drone pilots can find current TFR’s on the FAA website.

Saturday night officially marked the submission deadline for the New York City Drone Film Festival. Good luck to everyone who entered and stay tuned to AirVuz.com and our social media pages for updates regarding the now all digital film festival that will take place October 24th though the 25th.

We have another leaded drone photo from Twitter user OsitaLV who has previously leaked photos of unreleased DJI drones. This time OsitaLV is showing us what could be a DJI FPV Racing drone. You can’t see much in the image, but what is noticeable is the rubber feature on the top of the drone, the absence of a gimbal-style stabilized camera, inverted motors, of course the DJI logo and the fact that this UAV appears to have taken a few crashes. Drone site, DroneDJ speculates that this could be an introductory, “Ready-to-fly” FPV drone for people looking to get into the sport.

Now it’s time to announce the top 5 drone videos uploaded to AirVuz.com last week:
“Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Drone Travel Video” by el gringo rojo, “Flying over Bagan, Myanmar” by Travel Imagez, “Alpstein - The Northern Outpost” by haussmannvisuals,
“Flying over an Extinct Volcano” by Dave Yip,
“Athens, Majestic City” by Damian. And the Drone Video of the Week is “Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Drone Travel Video” by el gringo rojo. Content creator el gringo rojo spent 5 weeks traveling and flying in Rio. He describes it as one of the most vibrant cities in the world from a drone's perspective. This aerial film shows Rio’s famous landmarks and pristine beaches.
