AirVūz News: World of Drones 05/11/20

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

As many sports leagues continue to figure out when and how to resume amid a global pandemic, the Drone Racing League is set to get back to the action this weekend.

The DRL announced today the launch of a virtual drone racing series that will begin Saturday, May 16. The 2020 FanDuel DRL SIM Racing Cup will include 12 total pilots, who will face off once every weekend through July 5 by competing on the DRL simulator.

The races will be shown live on NBSCN and will also be streamed live on Twitter. Additionally, the DRL pilots will be donating their winnings to Direct Relief, which provides protective gear and medical equipment to frontline workers. You can find more information about all the scheduled races in the description below.

DJI launched a new commercial drone last week when it introduced the DJI Matrice 300 RTK. The latest version of the Matrice platform boasts up to 55 minutes of battery life, an enhanced obstacle avoidance system, and can carry up to three payloads simultaneously.

The Matrice 300 also comes with the Zenmuse H20 camera, which includes thermal imaging. The drone itself has a flight range of 15 kilometers, or over 9 miles.

We hear about all different types of drone deliveries these days. One California company is hoping to use drones to deliver items to help keep people safe during the coronavirus pandemic.

Dive Delivery is now doing backyard delivery of KN95 masks and small bottles of hand sanitizer. The deliveries are currently available in California’s San Mateo County and Contra Costa County. A delivery of two masks and a bottle of hand sanitizer costs $12.

We have a new episode of “AirVuz After Hours” that we think you’ll all enjoy. Hosts Tyler Mason and Jacob Blaeser chatted with the pilots of Beverly Hills Aerials to see what it takes to get to the level of filming Hollywood movies and Super Bowl commercials. The full interview is at AirVuz.com.

Every week on World of Drones, we share the top five videos uploaded to AirVuz.com over the past week. The top video also takes home the crown as Drone Video of the Week.

In no particular order, here are the top five video from the the last week.

-“Closed City of Moscow, Russia During the Coronavirus Pandemic” by pushkinflyteam

-“Gaia” by Fabio Knoll

-“Hyper-Firenze” by iDrone Aerials

-“Queens Plaza” by thedronalist

-“EXPLORING SOUTHERN UTAH” by HAYDEN KAST

And this week’s winner of $250 as our Drone Video of the Week is iDroneAerials for his video “Hyper-Firenze.” Content creator Garrit Wes Anderson shows off the beautiful city of Florence, Italy, in his winning film. Florence’s famous Duomo takes center stage in the video, which also features the Ponte Vecchio bridge and the Arno River, among other sites. Garrit is now eligible to win our Drone Video of the Month for the month of May.
