The world's leading intelligent UAV technology company, EHang, has received the green light to start using their “pilot-less” air taxis to deliver goods to households.  The Guangzhou-based tech firm announced last week that they received approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to start carrying out commercial trial operations of deliveries up to 150 kilograms or 330 pounds with their EHang 216 drones. The mega drones will start delivering products in Taizhou, a mountainous area where the drones will also have to fly over the sea going from island to island.  This is the first license of its kind to be given out by the CAAC and has great significance for the long-term development of urban air traffic applications in China and the world. EHang plans to use their 216 drone to take people on sightseeing tours in the future.

A police helicopter in Canada collided mid-air with a police drone. The Civil Aviation Daily Occurrence Reporting System (CADORS), just listed the incident last week even though it occurred in February. A Royal Canadian Police helicopter and a RCMP SkyRanger R60 surveillance drone were on a joint mission in British Columbia with they came into contact 300 feet in the air. The drone was obliterated, but the helicopter only experienced a brief vibration and was able to land safely and the three people onboard were unharmed. According to Canada’s Transportation Safety Board, the incident was rated 5 out of 6 in terms of seriousness and even though it was mainly uneventful it was an expensive lesson as the drone cost around $100,000. The Safety Board is unsure what caused the collision.

In lighter news, comedian Mr. Uekusa, a finalist on the popular France’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent TV shows, is using a drone to make people smile. He’s famous for his tablecloth tricks, but as you can see in these videos he’s taking it up a notch by incorporating a drone and his naked body.
