AirVūz News: World of Drones 07/13/20

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

The New York City Drone Film Festival, in partnership with AirVuz, announced late last week that this year’s festival will be a digital experience. The festival was originally scheduled for July 25-26, but is being transitioned to an online format for 2020 due to safety concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new date of the NYCDFF is October 24, 2020. The festival will still boast the best drone films in the world, which will now be available to view online. Additionally, presentations from a variety of experts and professionals in the drone industry will be made available for online viewing.

“We decided to go all digital," said NYCDFF founder and director Randy Scott Slavin. "We’re going to have a kick-ass show for you full of the best drone films in the world, as usual. We’re going to have amazing drone celebrity guests that are going to be a part of the show. We’re going to have some amazing classes. We’re going to do a digital Day of Drones. And all that content will be available online.”

AirVuz acquired the New York City Drone Film Festival earlier this year. The sixth annual festival was scheduled to take place at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, New Jersey. All films uploaded to AirVuz.com are eligible to be selected. The new submission deadline is August 8.

We’ve seen drone light shows gain popularity in the last few years. One recent drone display helped share reminders of how to keep safe during the current pandemic.

More than 300 drones were flown in South Korea’s capital of Seoul during a light show by the Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport that encouraged residents to wear a mask and to practice social distancing. The drones formed the shape of a giant mask high above the sky, as well as of two people wearing masks and keeping distance between them.

Drone manufacturer Parrot has partnered with a company called Hoverseen to provide a drone-in-a-box solution for Parrot’s ANAFI drone.

The box allows for autonomous launching for security and inspection purposes. The box also includes the ability to recharge the drone upon its return, as well as transfer data autonomously. The ANAFI drone is capable of being equipped with a FLIR thermal camera.

And this week’s Drone Video of the Week winner is: vitaliy.karpovich for his film “Feeling Bruges (Aerial).” It’s the fifth Drone Video of the Week nomination for Vitaliy, but the first time he’s taken home the weekly award. He was previously nominated for films showcasing Budapest, Hungary, and St. Petersburg, Russia.

Vitaliy’s latest video shows us the beauty P well-preserved architecture. Congratulations to Vitaliy, who wins the $250 prize as Drone Video of the Week and is now eligible for Drone Video of the Month for July.
