AirVūz News: World of Drones 08/03/20

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

If you’re a drone pilot, chances are you’ve had someone come up to you and take issue with you flying. But most of the time, that incident doesn’t go viral. In Thomas Feezel’s case, his run-in with an angry neighbor has made the rounds on the internet.

Feezel was filming a property in Seattle with a DJI Mavic 2 Pro for real estate company RedFin. While flying, an angry woman came up to him and accused him of filming women with the drone.

In the video, Feezel -- who is black -- suggests that the woman made the accusations against him because of his race. Feezel says he has his Part 107 certification for his freelance company, Thomas Samuel Media, and notified the homeowners prior to flying his drone at the property. The woman in the video threatened to call RedFin before eventually walking away.

Chinese drone company eHang, which has previously made headlines for developing a human transport drone, has now come up with another use for its large drones. The company recently announced that it has launched a drone that can be used for firefighting efforts in high rise buildings.

Among the tools the EHang 216F drone is equipped with are six fire extinguisher bombs, a laser aiming system, firefighting foam and more. The makers of this first-of-its-kind drone hope it can be utilized in areas where high rise apartments are prevalent but where traditional firefighting methods can be timely and dangerous.

A drone was used to help find an alligator in a lake, but not in an area you’d typically expect to find one.

Emergency crews in suburban Lake Lynwood, Illinois, used a drone and several other tools to try to locate the alligator that was spotted in a lake. The visibility in the lake was just a few inches, making the search challenging. The alligator, nicknamed “Alex,” was eventually found and captured.

You won’t want to miss the latest episode of “AirVuz After Hours.” Myself and co-host Jacob Blaeser caught up with National Geographic photographer George Steinmetz, who began doing aerial photography with a paraglider decades ago. Now George is still taking amazing aerial images, but he’s given up his paraglider for a drone. You can find a link to the episode in the description below.
