Algodoal is one of the four villages that form the Island of Maiandeua, located in the municipality of Maracanã, in the Salgado region, northeast of Pará. As Algodoal is the most well-known village of the place, and also the largest on the island, the name ended up overlapping to the original, "Maiandeua", that of Tupi, means "mother of the earth". Because it is very close to Algodoal, the port of Marudá, district of Marapanim, is used as a reference for access to the island. The 19 square kilometers of beaches with large stretches of sand, mangroves, ecological trails, canoe trips and sport fishing are some of the attractions that most impress visitors to Algodoal. In addition, the island's nightclubs, always accompanied by reggae and regional rhythms, such as carimbó and tecnobrega, attract many young people in search of fun, especially during the high season of the Amazonian summer.
