Anse des Cascades

A green setting where freshwater filaments join the ocean. Anse des Cascades is a small bay located near Piton Sainte-Rose in the east of Reunion Island.

Its name comes from the many waterfalls that flow along the cliffs bordering the seafront.

Anse des Cascades is a popular place for locals who often come to picnic in the shade of the coconut trees or under one of the many kiosks available.

It is also a place frequented by tourists seduced by the tranquility of the place and this lush nature where the ocean adjoins the crystal clear waterfalls. A very beautiful coconut grove and many vacoas complete this picture composed of the intense green of nature and the deep blue of the ocean. A wooden footbridge allows you to walk along the waterfalls without having to cross the many streams and above all ensures access for people with reduced mobility. The site is also home to a small traditional dry fishing port and a restaurant (L’Anse des Cascades) that has been open for 40 years. Thanks to the path that runs along the coast, you can choose to go to the picnic area of La Source, go to Gros Piton or go to Piton Sainte-Rose to admire the famous Notre Dame Des Laves church.

This last route, the fishermen’s path, allows you to reach the port of Sainte-Rose. Allow about 3 hours of walking for 12 km and 350 meters of positive elevation gain. This route, often unknown to hikers, is nevertheless very well laid out and offers many viewpoints on this wild coast, swept by the winds and very well preserved.
