Santa Catalina (known as Catalina) is an oddly-shaped island located about 50 km (around 30 mi.) south-southwest of the Port of Los Angeles in the Pacific Ocean.  Mostly uninhabited (preserved) land, its main town is Avalon, on the island's southeastern shore.  In this video from Glazed Aerials, you'll get a bird's eye view of the quaint harbor town.  The most prominent landmark in Avalon, the round, red-roofed Catalina Casino, made a prominent appearance in the 1974 classic, Chinatown, starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway.
