The land that is now Greynolds Park once was home to the Tequesta Indians. It was later a trading post. In the early 1900s, it was a prison labor camp, where limestone was mined. The bulk of it was later bought by A.O. Greynolds for $1,200. He donated it to the county in 1933. Although it looks natural, Greynolds Park was man-made from 1936 to 1939 by the federal Civilian Conservation Corps. The lagoons were originally rock pits, the trees and shrubs were planted and the mound was built atop derelict mining equipment.
