No sooner had I finished the aerial project in Oregon than the elements called me to other latitudes. The earth was shaking and pouring a stream of molten rock onto an island somewhere in the Pacific. That's all it took to get a closer look at it and try to bring back some aerial footage. It took patience and several attempts to access the exclusion zone to evacuate any inhabitants. The scenery is apocalyptic, surreal; what was once a peaceful and lush suburban area is now a desolate field with a river of glowing lava flowing in its middle. The atmosphere is unique; the light from the stream of rock is so intense that it illuminates the sky with an orange hue, so much so that it can be seen in the middle of the night. One can only be humbled by such a phenomenon, reminding us that despite all our technology and knowledge, we are only tenants here below...
