In its broadest geographic definition, Biscayne Bay stretches for 60 mi. (around 100 km) north to south, with the southern part of the bay largely undeveloped. The more commonly accepted definition is the northern part of the bay, which is defined on its western side by the Florida mainland and on its eastern side by a series of barrier islands extending south to Key Biscayne.
