It's an annual harvest-related festival in honor of the Most Holy Christ of the Threshing Floors (Santísimo Cristo de las Eras y la Misericordia), and it's held every year in the town of Carcelén in Albacete, one of the provinces of the autonomous community of Castilla–La Mancha. The origins of the festival go back hundreds of years.

Its origins began as agrarian rituals to ensure a good annual harvest, merging myths related to the sun and fire.

The race is eagerly awaited annually by the population of Carcelén, province of Albacete, España. This event marks the start of the festivities in honor of the Santísimo Cristo de las Eras y la Misericordia ( Most Holy Christ of the Threshing Floors), who is relocated once the race is over.
