Campo Imperatore and the Gran Sasso mountain range - east side Campo Imperatore (formerly Campo Imperiale attributed to it by Frederick II of Swabia, is a vast plateau, of glacial and karst-alluvial origin, located at about 1800 m of altitude in the province of L'Aquila, in Abruzzo, in the heart of the Gran Sasso massif.
