The history of Jalpa, Zacatecas, dates back to pre-Hispanic times when the region was inhabited by indigenous groups, primarily the Zacatecos and Guachichiles. These groups lived off agriculture, hunting, and gathering in what is now Jalpa. The arrival of the Spaniards in the region occurred in the 16th century as the conquest of Mexico began. The Spaniards subjugated the indigenous populations and established encomiendas in the area. During the colonial era, Jalpa was part of the Royal Audiencia of Guadalajara and served as an important point along the silver route, giving it some economic significance. After Mexico's independence in 1821, Jalpa became part of the state of Zacatecas. Throughout the 19th century, the region experienced conflicts and armed struggles, including the War of Reform and the Mexican Revolution, which had a significant impact on the area. In the cultural sphere, Jalpa has contributed notable artists and musicians to Mexico's cultural richness. Traditional music, especially mariachi, is a significant part of the region's identity. Today, Jalpa is a municipality in the state of Zacatecas and has undergone significant economic development, particularly in agriculture and livestock. The city boasts well-preserved colonial architecture, as well as historic and cultural sites that attract visitors. The Feast of the Virgin of the Assumption, celebrated on August 15th, is one of the most important celebrations in Jalpa, drawing numerous pilgrims and tourists.
