Château d'Amboise is one of the famous castles of the Loire River Valley in west-central France. Its namesake town is in the Indre-et-Loire Department in the heart of this famed region. Like most of the Loire castles, d'Amboise began its life as a medieval fortification. It came under control of the French royal family and rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the late 15th century, becoming one of the favorite Royal residences for much of the 16th century.
