Chiapa de Corzo is a small Mexican city located in the center of the state of Chiapas, in southeastern Mexico. It is the first city founded by the Spanish during the conquest on March 1, 1528,1 although prior to its foundation there were ceremonial sites and pre-Hispanic settlements. It is located on one side of the Grande de Chiapa River or Grijalva River, 15 km from the center of Tuxtla Gutiérrez. It is the first city established in the state and the first capital. Currently, due to its number of inhabitants, it is the fifth largest city in the state.
