Whew, lots to talk about on this one! I'd rather write it than record myself chattering, so sorry for all the reading. Back to the same old spot again, managed to sneak some packs in before the cold hit this week. Of course I forgot to clean the schmu off the GoPro lens from the gate flying the other day, so sorry about the smears. Still thought this was worth posting for a couple of reasons. I've been flying this setup again after some time flying other rigs. This is on AMAXInno 2306 2500kv motors, Aikon AK32 35A indvidual ESCs (not 4-in-1), CLRacing F4S FC, on an older version of BF (3.5?). I'd been flying on the Gemfanhobby 5152 props, which are a favorite of mine for freestyle. Tons of low end grip and good speed. They got all chewed up last week when I was out flying with the crew (hence the schmu), so i swapped them out for some T-Motor FPV (also made by Gemfan) 5143 props I had in the trunk. I've really enjoyed these props on a few other builds, so I was curious to see how they'd do. The difference was pretty striking. The first thing was I noticed was crispness. Without changing the tune at all the much lower moment of inertia and combined torque load on the 5143 was extremely noticeable. The time it takes for the prop to change and reach stable speed is clearly faster. The tune isn't perfect, but even without changing anything, the handling was completely different. Stops and starts on rolls and flips were much more immediate and felt sharper. These motors are pretty torquey so it wasn't exactly sluggish on the 5152 props, but the difference was still very noticeable. What's particularly interesting is that the 5143 manage to do this without losing a ton of low end grip and low throttle control. The second thing I noticed was speed. The 5143 are dramatically slower at the weight point (650g AUW) of this setup, to the point where it slowed down my whole flying style. I think on a lighter rig the difference would be less noticeable, but at the relatively heavy weight here it was pretty dramatic. I think with more camera angle this could be largely mitigated, but again going back to back against the 5152, the difference was striking. Given that most of my previous experience on these props has been at much higher Kv, this isn't too surprising. I still think that if your'e looking for any sort of speed, the ideal setup for this prop is a good bit higher Kv, but we'll see what difference increasing camera angle makes in the future. Also related to this was my flight time and relative efficiency. I'm not yet sure if it was simply due to flying slower, or if the props are actually drawing less current for the same output, but my flight time was quite a bit longer than with the 5152. I need to fly some more with some additional camera angle to see if this is a factor of my flying or if there is an efficiency difference. Finally, these 5143 are insanely smooth. I don't just mean smooth flying, I mean they seem to generate less physical vibrations than almost any other prop I've flown, which means less filtering is necessary and combined with the snappy response times, excellent prop wash handling when tuned appropriately (still not tuned in perfect in this video, I know.) The difference is pretty noticeable right from the get-go though, and has been consistent on every setup where I've tried these. Not sure if the mold is just super well balanced, or if there's something about the mass distribution and airflow patterns on these that makes them less prone to imbalanced rotation. Definitely an interesting characteristic though. Overall it was an interesting experience and I'm reminded why I like these 5143 props so much. Hope you made it through the end of this! Sorry for the longwindedness!
