Coal Mine Canyon is one of those rare gems that receive little attention. Named for its low grade, widely scattered coal deposits, the upper end of Coal Mine Canyon attracts the curious who enjoy seeing colorful rock formations and impressive canyons. Stories are told by Native Americans and others who claim that, on certain nights when the moonlight dances across the hoodoos, a white mist rises from the bottom of the canyon and forms the shape of a beautiful young woman.
