Lots more reading folks! No apologies, it's what I do :P Keep scrolling if you don't want to read :D After my last video, I got a comment from Sugar Kane, asking if I'd tried the telemetry based filtering that is being tested in the Betaflight 4.0 builds right now. I've been waiting on testing as it was pretty early in development, and I wanted to let it get some mileage before I set it up. It seems reports have been good in the last few weeks though, so based on Sugar K's advice I decided to give it a go. Big thanks to Sugar Kane for making this possible, as he also happened to have the hex files I needed that weren't in the master development branch as yet, as well as providing a tuning guide for configuration. Thanks to his work, the setup wasn't difficult at all, so I took the rig I've been experimenting with and took it out for a whirl. I can't explain to you how significant this feature is. I would go as far as to say it had as big an impact on flight feel as complementary PWM ( a.k.a. light damped, active braking) did back in the day. I have never in my 5 years of flying felt anything like that. I was able to dial back essentially all the filters except the dynamic dterm filter. Even with only the telemetry filter and the dynamic dterm active, I don't think I've ever heard my motors run that silently. No chatter, no noise, just pure spinning air. The stick feel was absolutely unbelievable as well. As a result of how clean this is running I need to tighten the tune up a bit from where I have been running it, some higher P and I gains, but man alive! I'm not sure how much better this stuff can get! Of course every time I say that something new comes along! I was absolutely shocked by how well it worked, even in below 50 degree weather, which tends to do bad things to the batteries and can expose issues in the tune. Absolutely remarkable.
