Cowdray Castle stands proud on the North bank of the pretty River Rother on the vast Cowdray Estate. It is not actually a Castle, it is the impressive remains of one of England’s most important Tudor Houses. A large proportion of the House was destroyed by a fire in 1793 and during the early 19th Century it was left to ruin and ivy hastened its decay.
